People here suggested that he stop referring to Mo and he did
We had a thread about the demise of the 5000/10000 and a few days later he mentions it
He keeps referring to “message boards”
I mean, it makes sense. If I was going to be speaking about a topic to a wide TV audience, I would keep in touch with what people care about.
I would too - But these boards are heavily weighted by US posters, no surprise of course being a US site, but that does skewer bias and outspokenness re doping rather alarmingly.
I would like to know how many Ethiopians, Kenyans and others raised & living within the African continent read/post here. - Not many I bet.
And I believe times have dropped off due to several reasons. Firstly if you at Geb & Bekele, you have two of the all time greats overlapping within the same timeline. Geb was hugely motivated by records and Bekele had the talent and the motivation AND the competition & support of Geb in his pursuit of the records.
Secondly. world records arent greeted with wild euphoria and praise these days - you are labelled a doper and carry that burden for the remainder of your career. - Take Chepkoech for example. A talented athlete with a great range who has been a regular performer in DL and WC events for some years without suspicion. Suddenly she runs 15 seconds faster than before and is immediately labelled a doper - further embellished by Emma Coburn who replied to a Tim Hutchings tweet with a sarcastic comparison of Chepkoech to Ruth Jebet, inferring they are one in the same. - So who in their right mind would train and strive to break records when this is your reward??
