Why are there so few murders per capita in East Asian countries?

One thing you missed: a societal goal to work for a higher purpose for the community, not for self. In the USA, we are all about the self or the tribe, we are taught to lie, cheat and exploit, if it helps us gain an advantage.

Ah, no, you are not executed "on the spot". Yes, Singapore does have the death penalty for trafficking in drugs and they do run through the court system much faster than the US does. To think that they are just executing people "on the spot" out in the streets is simply absurd.

Vietnam, check. Thailand, check. Mongolia? what do you consider "nearby" countries? Ulan Bator, the capitol of Mongolia, is more than 5100 kilometres from Singapore.

This thread is primarily about East Asia, and Mongolia is in East Asia (not too far from Korea and Japan). The reference countries I mentioned are all East Asian as well as Singapore, but it has cultural similarities. Have you ever been to Mongolia? (I have btw, UB as well as some other areas.)

Nope, never been to UB but would love to go.....in the summer. Have lived and worked in many SE Asian countries.

How dense are you? I said I lived in East Asia for a few years, as well as Singapore, and I was drawing on my own experience living there. The thread is about East Asia and the reasons for low murder rates, however if you knew anything about Singapore you would know that, despite its geography in SE Asia, it is culturally much more East Asian than SE Asian (over 60% ethnic Chinese), hence why it is appropriate to include as an example of an East Asian country with low violent crime. I wasn’t the first one to bring up Singapore either. And the countries I mentioned are all proximate to either Singapore or in East Asia. Among the SE Asian countries, Singapore has the highest East Asian influence, followed by Malaysia and Vietnam, then probably Indonesia/Thailand and then others (Philippines/Laos/Cambodia). I’ve lived in the region for years and have spent time in all those places, including for work as the whole region was under my scope, if you have as well would you dispute any of that?

Thailand, Cambodia, & Laos are much closer in culture to each other but quite removed from East Asia both geographically and culturally. Singapore does have a lot of similarities to East Asia despite being a SE Asian nation. Yes, it is multi-cultural with a lot of Indian and Malaysian influence but more Chinese influence due to the make up of the city/state. Malaysia is dominated culturally by the Malays but business is where the Chinese minority excel and some Indians.

Indonesia? Far removed from anything to do with East Asia. The business community does have a lot of Chinese-Indonesians that work in that sector but they don't represent Indonesian culture.

Indonesia has a high percent of denisovan crossed into blood line, I thought it was up to 10 percent. I’ve always wondered how much of genome is still alive in humans, and if it would be at all possible to breed back lost sub species. I’m also confused if sub species is right term, I always thought separate species could not breed together. It is also important to note, Japanese genetically are Chinese. I believe the original population that was displaced, was more Indonesian.

Certain countries are cherry-picked while in relatively stable and peaceful periods. Or with dishonest, authoritarian governments that falsify their data.

Where did I say Indonesia has a strong East Asian influence? I didn’t. I didn’t say the others, other than Singapore, do either, I put them into tiers (Singapore, then Malaysia/Vietnam). You could say San Francisco has more of a Chinese influence than Phoenix, it doesn’t mean you’re implying it’s just like Beijing. You’re just trying to be argumentative and trying to disprove something I didn’t even say, and I’m not sure why other than to put your ignorance repeatedly on display.
