It's racism and xenophobia, all too common on the Let's Run boards.

And it's sad to see someone put up a list of Americans who've medalled recently in the distances that completely omits Bernard Lagat's WC and indoor WC medal haul.

Chelimo has a point.

Ironically, Dan Browne was DFL in his 5k prelim heat at the WC in Seville. and DFL in the 10k in Paris. Maybe that's what he is talking about.

Nope. You said white. When I mention American it includes all races. I just don't like all the changing of nationalities in sport right now. I think in distance running it'll get worse and worse and eventually you'll have Kenyan, Ethiopian farm teams throughout the world. You even seen American raised athletes running for other nations. I'm not saying it's wrong, in many instances I would make the same choice, but I think it's an easy way out.

A lot of this is your lack of understanding that runners mature and improve after the US cycle of high school, college and retirement at 22 years old.

In the rest of the world that's a common progression.

A 20 second PR in 4 seasons?! Woah... what's next? You gonna tell me it's during his prime athletic years too?! NO WAY!!

Not defending Chelimo statement, which I think is based primarily on ignorance. He probably has no idea that Meb and Kaster medaled in a global championship as far back as 2004, Kara in '07 and Shalane in '08, Lagat '07, '08, '09 and '11, Men's WXC '01 and '08, Women's WXC '01, ''02, '03, '10 and '11, etc. Most likely he knows nothing about USA running before he came to the U.S. 6 years ago.

In terms of Chelimo's rapid improvement, you can almost disregard his time spent at Shorter College and UNCG, he didn't start training seriously until about 3 years ago. Doping is highly unlikely, chances are he's taking 2-3 extra drug test beyond USADA and if caught taking a banned and/or controlled substance by the Army, he could end up in prison.
