me too. Had high hopes after his great progress last year culminating in his Rio PR. This year, especially with his indoor form, I thought he would be an outside medal hope, but a long way off that. Was hoping he would run close to 13 dead, but doubtful this year.
Big props to S.Krumins. She doubles at worlds 5k/10k 8th & 5th in finals and runs 8:34 today PB less than a week after the W champs.

I skipped spoilers for startlists so I was surprised to first see Coburn line up for a flat 3000m without steeple but then shocked to see Molly Huddle ?!?!?
Why would Huddle do 3000m when she is now completely tuned for HM and full marathon distance? Even 10,000m exposes her slow-twitch weakness
Was she under contractual obligations or something like that?
But also interesting to note how steeples are a serious strength for Coburn and that a flat 3000m defeats her podium ability.
BTW how much faster do you think Obiri might be with a more efficient upper body movement like some other east-african women (both Kenyan and Ethiopian)

Huddle wanted to try and qualify for the Diamond League final, so she ran this race to try and pick up points.

I wasn't as surprised by Coburn though. Not only does she just have flawless steeple form meaning the steeple doesn't add much time, but she ran a 1500m earlier this year and only ran 4:13. She didn't have a ton of speed this year (granite she ran PR's of 4:06 and won the NCAA mile in 4:29 in the past).
She has said numerous time she did a lot more strength this year and that has obviously worked more. Maybe she will alternate steeples and 5k's more in the future.
Also, keep in mind that Frerich's 1500m PR is only 4:18. The 3000m SC takes a lot more strength than a flat 3k. Look at the top steeplers in the world right now. Most of them would definitely be, comparatively better in the 5k.

1) Emma and Courtney both ran 3000m PERSONAL BESTS today!!!
2) Emma's SC time of 9:02 is only 14 seconds SLOWER than her 3000m personal best!
3) Courtney's SC time of 9:03 is only 10 seconds SLOWER than her 3000m personal best!

I think we had a pretty good idea already of Coburn's limited capability in the flat 3k. And we shouldn't have had any illusions about Frerichs'. But both Coburn and Frerichs made personal bests. I was most shocked with Huddle being only about 5 seconds faster than Coburn.

Colleen Quiqley has a 1500m PR of 4:03...which is even faster than Emma and Courtney...so Colleen is an even bigger DOPER than Emma and Courtney.
Colleen and Courtney are both coached by SCHUMACHER.

They are all in the same BTC group (=Nike).
