mo himself said in press conference after 5k loss that he was definitely in sub-26'40 shape here, which is obvious from 13'36/13'13 splits

What 7:18, you've losted it. el g even struggled breaking that world record, he's obviously more of a 1500m/5000m runner.Breaking 7:20 is not easy, i think mo is capable of 7:25.

Chelimo was the key. He shut the door on Mo and forced Mo to go the inside route. The inside opened up for Mo but there was a visible look of surprise when Chelimo got alongside Mo. The hesitation and energy it took to change plans defeated Mo, along with a fast closing Edris.
Mo was very good, but on this day he lost to a faster athlete. He didn't position himself correctly and stayed on the rail too long. This allowed others to act on him and that cost him gold.

Bekele won 8 outdoor gold's. Nobody thinks Farah is total distance goat, just track.
You are right about KB's Golds, he has 8. I miss counted all those yellow circles on his wiki page.
I have seen people claim Farah is the total distance goat, and not just on track, so that is why I called the argument silly.
Lastly, I think that even though Mo's medal haul on the track is greater than KB, you could not clearly rate Mo as the track GOAT when you consider more than just world medals. If you consider all of track (diamond league, indoor, PBs) then KB might still have the edge (speaking only in the distance category 3k-10k).

He lost the race well before the last 100. fr the first time in ages in a major race he was headed at the bell. Unable to control the last lap and accelerate when he wanted to.. Remember he was fourth with c250 to go.
A younger, faster, (fresher?) Farah would have extricated himself from his poor position before the bell and run his usual last lap, probably with the usual result. he has won lots of close championship races, now he lost one. How unusual is that? Isn't it to be expected? It is sport, involving human beings who are prone to make mistakes, arrive at a race in less than 100% perfect condition.

Has anyone noted that Farah and Rupp used team tactics when Farah ran to a number of his gold medals. I always felt it was wrong (downright unpatriotic) of Rupp to routinely sacrifice his race to allow Farah to win gold. In the 5k it was merely a case of the Ethiopians doing to him what Rupp and he would do to others (primarily by forcing competitors to have to run way outside or boxing them inside on the late laps).

Sadly, that beautiful love affair soured after London. Farah eventually moved on to Aden as his primary coach.
