What Makwala had to say

"I was not that sick, I just vomited. Like any other athlete, I vomit... I could have run because I did my warm-up well and I did everything well. I was ready to run.

"They say they are waiting for the medical results but I don't know because they didn't test me. I don't know what, which medical results they are waiting for.

"This is bad. I felt heartbroken yesterday. I was ready for this, I worked hard for this. So I feel like sabotaging or something ... I don't know because I don't have the full information about this."

I would say the plot thickens, but it's pretty clear cut at this point. The only question left is why did the IAAF do this?

I was wondering why van Niekerk didn't celebrate at all. I'm pretty sure he knew about this madness and kept calm out of respect to his unfortunate rival.

they are good for gold, but the spectacle of protest would be immortal. and 100x more impact than a gold in the 4 x 400.

Having heard the IAAF Rep ; stood up magnificently in a highly intelligent way; I was waiting for her to say that the Botswana team failed to respond or act on what they where told unlike the other nations .But such was not her roll, as she more than indicated .

The athlete tried to blag his way in and it would seem that iaaf was aware he was going to break "instructions "

Same guys telling them to walk the 4x400 are the same guys who are mad at Kaepernick for taking a knee.

This virus is so contagious that letting athletes that are still contagious in would likely bring down the World Championships itself. You'd also be potentially exposing 60k spectators. I am not joking. This stuff is so contagious that everyone around one infected person almost inevitably gets it. Tough, tough break for Makwala.

But athletes that are sick are still in the hotel, which is more dangerous then the track.

Also, Makwala didn't have the norovirus, he simply threw up. The IAAF made that detail up.

Alot of people are saying that the IAAF is right for protecting the athletes, but the IAAF lied. They fabricated that story to have a justification.

And in a big development, mo farah has come out and said he is on Makwalas side, and said they would never do this to him or bolt.

In a statement, the IAAF insisted Makwala had been "diagnosed with an infectious disease" on Monday evening by event doctors.

"The decision to withdraw him from the 200m heats last night and the 400m final today was made on the basis of a medical examination conducted in the warm-up medical centre by a qualified doctor on Monday and recorded in the electronic medical record system of the championships," the statement said.

It added: "The IAAF is very sorry that the hard work and talent of Isaac Makwala won’t be on display tonight but we have to think of the welfare of all athletes."

There will be no test data to support the diagnosis. Its going to be "the doctor's qualified opinion only": which rhymes with other doctors 12% of the time. This is the statistic in agreement in diagnosis of first opinion.

If you are going to throw a name athlete out for both events, then you need tests and communication with the athlete and team.

You would assume that they took the guy's temperature at least, but I will give that assumption 50/50 odds.

Did you even follow the story thus far? He was forced to withdraw from the 200. It wasn't his choice.

As someone who is, I can say that I've been forced through my career to be familiar with norovirus and the procedures that follow.

I am not the least bit surprised. This is exactly the way it's treated in every restaurant I'm familiar with, and with every health regulator. That said, I understand the outrage as oftentimes health regulations are the broad sweeping brooms of un-dynamic ignorance- all in the name of a sure-thing protection.

There's no need to call this a conspiracy. But, yes, it is dumb.
