Who's consistently run 100 mpw with a fulltime job?

So you are suggesting that "loving the sport and wanting to do it as well as you can" is not included in "other selfish reasons"? In what way is it not a selfish reason? Does it help anyone beside yourself, if you become a better runner?

Yes, I am suggesting that, rather emphatically. Life is not divided into "things that are selfish" and "things that help others." There are also "things you like to do that don't hurt anyone if you aren't doing them irresponsibly." I was not going to give up everything I liked doing when I got a job, got married, or had kids. I did not know that I'd need to make adaptions to how and when I did it so that no one would be neglected or overburdened.

And yes, it turned out that continuing to run fairly seriously was very helpful to the rest of the family. I have friends all over the world and we've had some really great family trips visiting them. On top of that, I seem to have passed that love of the sport along to my sons, both of whom run seriously and reasonably well. It's a shared interest and we've had great times together following and discussing the sport.

My dad had things he enjoyed and doing those things had no negative impact on my mum, sister, or me, and never seemed selfish. As the years have passed I appreciate that about him even more because I think I learned from him not to the sort of joyless drone that you and some of the other people in this thread seem to be.

The article stuck in my mind because it was such a great illustration of what you can get done if you don't get bogged down focusing on obstacles. Do you and HS ever cross paths anymore? I haven't seen nor heard of him since Shelly Karlin's memorial service.

Enough already, please. I think we can all come to terms that a large group of us on this thread think differently than you.

You remind me of a friend of mine who, once he had a kid, dropped all activities he enjoyed prior to and acted like anything other than spending all non working hours on his child was neglecting them. It's an incredibly unhealthy attitude and he seems miserable to me. I can run 90 on singles before 7am. I assure you that others running a majority of their mileage during this time are not neglecting anything. Add in a short run during one lunch or a second on a Saturday and you are over 100.

You strike me as someone who can't stretch themselves and lives within a personal comfort zone. I'd strongly suggest you try running this far while attending to other activities. It is possible it will actually make you a better worker, significant other, father or whatever it is you do in life.

My father too had serious hobbies while I was growing up. Growing up watching this level of commitment and dedication to something he enjoyed has had an immeasurable impact on my life in a positive way.

In the end you obviously don't agree. We get it. Can you move one? Others are still interested in how people fit this type of running into their schedule without your 20 questions regarding their motive and impact.

Maybe you don't know the "history" of the poster above (HRE). He once claimed he knew more about Seb Coe's training than Peter did. He also knows better about Bill Rodgers' career than BIll himself. He claimed the best way to avoid future running injuries is to ignore the current one, because like most things in life, running injuries would go away if you ignored them long enough.

And according to him, anyone without serious disabilities can easily handle 100mpw. It's all about motivation and commitment. Why? Because "every runner he knew" could do that. The guy is full of himself.

I don't have any problem with any other poster who posted on this thread. Kudos to those who can handle this much with a full time job.

You don't read very well. I certainly never claimed to know more about Coe's training than Coe's father did but I do know that in later years both Coe's acknowledged that there was more to what they did than most people believe there was. I do think that most anyone without disabilities can run 100 mile weeks if they want to. I don't know how easy it will be in each case and I do not know more about Rodgers' career than he does. If you read something I wrote that makes you believe that the trouble is with your reading comprehension. I don't know that the best way to avoid future running injuries is to ignore the current one but I do know that many of them go away on their

own. Not all do.

To your other post, who knows anything? My wife and kids are happy and have dome well in life. None of them turned out to be world class whiners like you are. Could they be even happier and done better had I not run? Maybe. But they could easily have done worse and been less happy.

A few thoughts about having kids, working full-time and running 100mpw:

-Forget having things planned. Example: 8pm, begin putting kids to bed. 10pm, continue putting kids to bed. 10:15, go to bed. 3am, clean puke. 5am call work to say you'll be late because kid can't go to day care sick. No morning run, little sleep, and now you are sick.

-Now, push a jogger for half your runs, except when the kids throws a fit or the weather won't allow it.

If you have kids you're personal schedule is at their mercy, and you'll be sick about 300% more and you'll be pushing a jogger.

The main point is that sure, you could get in a 100mpw week here and there, but it makes it damn near impossible to train consistently. Would you run a 100 mile week if the next week was going to be 30 miles? Unless you've got a nanny while you are not at work, it seems futile.

More power to anyone who proves me wrong....I'd love to see it and would respect the person who can do it tremendously.

Finally, sh*t, what kind of lunch break do you all get? Mine is 1/2 hour, by the time you eat,change and change back, that leaves time for 800m with a full stomach.

She was a long distance girlfriend at the time. Though she worked much longer hours than I did. She was a commercial litigator and I was in appellate.

Don't watch much/any TV or movies. Try to spend less time looking at your phone if that's a problem for you.

Have a spouse that also runs or is supportive and will trade off caring for the kids/running with you.

Get a job where you don't need to clock in/out at specific times. So if you need to catch up on work early moring/late night/weekends, it's not a problem.

Doubles are probably great for you, but minimize them to save time. I do 8 runs most weeks and that's enough for 100mpw. 9 runs helps make that more manageable if time allows.

Social life? I'm not sure what that means when you're married with multiple kids. We hang out with the neighbors while the kids run around, and I see old friends once every month or two. It's good if you can have some running buddies to socialize while getting the miles in.

You can do it. Make your choices and live with them. Don't whine on message boards.

Im jealous of those that have the option to shower and leave clothes at work. That would make things so much simpler

Not quite running 100 mile weeks, but am a middle distance runner. I have a flexible full time job and do train effectively with it. However, I would say I have a very difficult to attain situation. The life outside of running and work is very plain. Not much "free time". But the running is the free time! It is definitely manageable. Helps to have a supportive significant other.

I don't know guys wake up so early in the week to run. Even if I wanted to I couldn't.

My g/f is usually up until 11-12 midnight weekdays. She just doesn't go to bed early. And when she does, she does all kinds of preparations that would wake me up even with earplugs. And then she usually wants to f%ck And then there's post sex cuddling, etc. Lucky to be asleep by midnight.

And every other week her 13yr old is with us and he stays up late too.

Plus I have to walk my dogs for a good 30 min each morning as I work from home and g/f doesn't have time as she has a commute and gets her kid ready.

So I'm back home by 8-9am and it's work time.

So my runs are always after work.

Only time I was able to run doubles is when I was single living alone.
