I'd like to see what he did the week prior and after... How many days does it take until the next quality day.

Professional track is an interesting sport. This effort is no doubt equal to a 3k race or 5k on the roads. Why not just race on a regular schedule and put people in the stands. Instead we get practices like this and ESPN covers bowling.

Because NOP guys don't have the fortitude to go out and race unless they have everything perfect (or think they do).

Yet Rupp, and even Centrowitz, is considered an "Olympic medalist," which Cherono/Shaheen never achieved.

Assuming that poster for Shaheen's even workout remembers correctly, you have to adjust from 1600 to a full mile, which means that Shaheen basically added one rep at the same pace. Since Shaheen was more of a 3K/5K guy, this shouldn't be considered a world apart in terms of quality. Of course we may never know the actual times and recovery for each session, but they are in the same ballpark based on what we are hearing.

So this seems like a good time of year to do this workout.

You comparing this to an XC season peak workout.

Centro has no XC season so this would be the time to do this.

There is also one other thing.

Cherono/Shaheen was a super-doped Kenyan competing for Qatar.

this workout is about right. dixon did 2 x a mile solo, i believe according to arch jelly at auckland domain on the grass. pre did a couple of 4 minute miles infront of walker and dixon after a big night drinking. i think is was 359 plus 357 or something like that.

komen and kennedy did stuff way crazier than the above..

Bob Kennedy: There is always someone to do something with. If they are at different levels, sometimes guys might do portions of the training session with you. In total we, including the Kenyans, do two to three track workouts a week.

The way Kim coaches and the way the Kenyans train, when we have a session, he will say do 5×800 meters with 2 minutes recovery. There is no time gage. Kim’s philosophy for that time of the year is to run as fast as you can and finish the session. If it is within 10 days of a major championship, he will tell me to run the workout but don’t run it any faster than 2:04. Otherwise, we’ve been out there running 1:57’s for 800 meters. Last year we did a session and it was 1600, 1200, 800, and 400, with 3 minutes between each interval, and it was myself, Daniel Komen, and Paul Koech, and the other top guys. And these are my times: I ran 3:57, 2:56, 1:55, and 55. And I was kind of in the middle of the pack. Komen ran about 3:54, 2:53, 1:54, and 55. Not many people would ever conceive of training at that speed.

sheit, dixon did 2 x mile in 4 minutes flat on grass... missed the time.

arch stated that both dixon and walker were capable of 8 minutes for 2 miles.

thought neither approached this time.

still i watched role off 61 seconds per lap easily for 2400 meters in training.

then again his 3000 meter time does not reflect arch's projection.

however arch told walker he could set the world record when his best time was something like 336 or 337.

sheit, i best be off to sleep. walker rolled off the 61 second laps like sheit thru a goose....1978. or there about.

Is it just me or is it a repeat of the same 200m over and over.

I remember when, I think it was Joachim Cruz said to ignore unreal training sessions that you read about unless you were actually there with the stop watch. They are usually designed to scare (sow seeds of doubt in the minds of) any rivals and trick them into hurting themselves. I remember the Ethiopian head coach pouring cold water on Geb doing so many unreal track/speed sessions saying Geb's achilles couldn't handle them and that those internet sessions never happened. Nonetheless, Centro's training if true is very impressive.

They did 800m repeats. Multiple people were there and saw it. Completely fabricated to make people freak out, scare rivals and get attention/get people talking.

Don't they have the Fresno track in storage up there?

And why does Nike not have an indoor track on campus there?
