Where do people do their mileage when they have full time jobs?

This. Turn off the screens (TV, computer, phone) and go to bed. I bet the only reason you're not a morning person is that you like to stay up late and putz around. Stop putzing around! You're an adult now.

I was never a morning person. Every early morning run was always a slug fest.

I joined the Army at age 32. Mornings are easy now. I workout 630-730 every day. I wake up at 5, in bed by 11.

Your solution: join the Army! Lol

I'm sorry, but here in the UK most streets have some form of lighting and are perfectly OK for running in the dark months - from late October to mid February it is probably too dark to run anywhere without street lights after 5:00pm. There are some country lanes that I don't run and any off road stuff is out of the question but always assumed that this is just the way it is. Even with running at lunchtime the second run of the day - earlier or later - has to be in the hours of darkness. Just run!

One place I can run on grass is the local cricket field; enough light from street lights for most of the way round the edge of the field to run reasonably fast. The problem is boredom. I used to do 40 laps continuous (just under 400m per lap) but that was when I was a teenager and very, very motivated! Cannot imagine doing that now!

Curious about this too. I just had my first kid and am going to have to switch to mornings if i ever want to do more than 25mpw.

It looks like some of you just get less sleep. Kinda jealous that you are able to do that. I can barely sustain 7 hours when not running. If I put in over 50mpw I need a lot more.

Home at 6, asleep by 9, up at 5. Easy... or at least it used to be. Now there's too much to do when I get home. Plus the bedtime routine is an hour long because my wife HAS to go to bed at the same time and likes to talk forever in bed. "Shut up Honey, I don't care about your day. I need to go to sleep so I can run", sounds like a good solution.

It's quite obvious that you don't run in the dark. If you run in the dark, then you will trip over that roadkill raccoon on the side of the the road. That happened to me a couple years ago, because I was ACTUALLY running in the dark without adequate ambient lighting. So then I did a silly thing and bought a headlamp.

The added benefit is that the "mostly asleep" drivers are able to see me and, you know, not run me over.

If you just had your first kid it will be very hard to maintain a consistent running schedule, morning, noon or night. Own it and make peace with it. And if your pre-child life was "home at 6, bed by 9", then you are in for a rough adjustment period. Unless you fob all the nighttime child responsibilities to your wife, in which case you suck.

Throughout my life I have never been able to get to sleep until 1:00 at the earliest no matter how early I had to get up. I decided that being an adult meant that I got to decide if I wanted to putz around or not. Running at extremely early hours is not the only option.
