I've been coaching boys and girls for two decades. Girls are NOT tougher than boys. And I love coaching both equally. Girls have it a lot easier, much less real competition.
I've never seen ANY evidence that what the OP claims is true, so the heck with this.

It’s because you don’t coach them equally.

I made Robert DeNiro cry because he didn't give me the dinnero after giving it to me.
Entiendo?
Coming from a high school girl, for me personally, I usually cry when I get beat by someone who I try harder than. Someone who didn’t go to any summer practice, doesn’t eat right, doesn’t even hydrate everyday. They just are more talented than me, maybe have a little less meat on their thighs (people consider me skinny, but I’m not skinny enough to be really good at distance), or they’re just more genetically gifted.
It’s annoying.
Women will push themselves to finish no matter the pain or their place in the race.
Men will shut it down and begin formulating excuses about "training through" this race or, "This was just a scheduled tempo effort." when the going gets tough.

Get used to it. There will always be someone better than you. That's life, and hopefully a lesson you'll take from athletics.
