Starting to change my mind. Now I can see the argument that Montano advanced too quickly and initiated the contact with Martinez. I don't think she was "running wildly" or any such exaggerated accusations. It's a race. She started to die, lost some places, found some energy to try to get back into the thick of it, and...perhaps caught up too quickly.

Martinez clearly taking the high road and being gracious towards Montano. Not wanting to blame her in this interview. But clearly she was clipped from behind and it was Montano who was behind her.
I don't think any major final has ever been re-run for a mid-race fall or collision.
They could have re-run the 1996 Olympic 1500 after El G went down and 10 runners had to jump over him giving Morceli a clean break from the pack.
Martinez stumbles as she moves up outside Wilson, and from there things go pear-shaped.
I can't put it on Montano, although her histrionics were tiresome.

Ludlow still looks OK. 1:37.9 Montano is on ground and Ludlow has stepped over her. Martinez is stumbling into a more outside lane. By 1:38.2 Wilson, Rogers, Grace and Ludlow are all clear of Montano and Martinez is in what looks like Lane 4.
at 1:35.6 Montano clips Martinez' heel causing her to lose her balance. Then Montano further barges in trying to go between Martinez and the leader who were both in lane one. Montano made the initial foul and complicated things by moving in and finishing Martinez off.

I think this is right. There is no one in front of Martinez at the time. Wilson is unperturbed in lane 1. In the interviews, it also seemed like Brenda is genuinely still shocked and mystified as to what happened--she just knew it was from behind, whereas Alysia is already defensive and saying look at the replay, that she was positioned perfectly, executing her plan. When, really, what kind of plan has you leading the first lap under a minute and then letting yourself fall back to step it up again in the last 150? She said she was trying to stay out of the fray because she knew the girls would be panicking and going nuts the last 150 but I think that quote is one of those times when you're just describing yourself and your own state of mind and attributing it to someone else. I feel for her for the losses to dopers but she needs her medals from those times. I don't think she was going to make top 3 regardless of this fall. Martinez, on the other hand, is really a victim of bad luck. Geez, 4 years of training. Best of luck to her in the 1500.

We've been informed the officials have declared that the contact in the women's 800 was incidental and there have been no DQs. The 30 minute protest window is now open.
BMart and Montano do not agree on the contact. I think I will go with the account of the one who isn't delusionally hysterical.
When do people suggest a re-run? On the same day that Martinez will be running the 1500?

Martinez has already stated that "someone clipped me from behind". The incident had nothing to do with Wilson who was beside Martinez on the inside. Montano clearly ran up INTO Martinez FROM BEHIND.

Martinez' fall only makes sense if martinez was clipped from behind, and that's what martinez says happened.

Exactly. Why in the hell was she running on the outside of lane one while leading and then gets passed on the inside and then runs into Brenda causing the crash. She tucked and rolled for no reason. She was about to die down the homestretch anyway.
After falling why didn't someone kick her over dramatic ass off the track. Walking and falling to her knees 5 times while crying. This is why track & field isn't taken seriously.
