Transgender girl at State Meet

I can't even wrap my head around this. Taking chemicals to DECREASE your ability while practicing daily to increase ability. That's like telling your male athlete to train hard then don't sleep or eat on purpose. You're fighting against yourself. There will be cheating with this too. People not taking estrogen to the level they are supposed to in order to not regress.

This is tricky stuff.

I support trans people. I'd pee in North Carolina in the Ladies in a dress any day of the week.

But I'm unable to see how a MTF trans person could compete fairly against girls/women?

The only way it would be fair is if they were post-op, and on female hormones. In other words, no testosterone produced by their nuggets in the system, because they no longer have nuggets.

I don't have the scientific knowledge to say much more. Do women naturally produce any testosterone? Maybe a bit? I just don't know.

If there is testosterone present, it just ain't fair. My best 1500 is 4:01.0, and a 1:57 800. Mediocre for a dude; great times for a girl. But I'm hung like a horse, of course, so I don't try to win the ladies division, right?

Yes, no way that NCAA can "force"girls to take estrogen (in the long run). What if they get cancer as a result. The NCAA would open themselves to terrible lawsuits.

No. If you'll note the NCAA documentation on the inclusion of transgender student athletes, as a trans woman you would compete on the mens team or a mixed team until you had completed one year of hormone therapy. So no scholarship is likely.

Actually, the Alaskan male who considers himself a female is already on hormones, so I don't see how the 1 year requirement will be an issue for him in obtaining a scholarship.

The biggest here will be the acceptance of transgender people in all of society thus allowing transgender children to come out at a young age. There are six/seven year olds who identify as the other gender and through therapy can better verbalize it and begin living in a way that they feel most comfortable (ex Going to school as biological gender but at home they can dress as they wish). Then this prevents a MTF transgender from going through puberty if they get on hormone treatments early enough. This will prevent much of the testosterone added advantage that occurs in pubescent boys (growing muscles, etc) and thus even playing field (theoretically).

Agree with agip on this. This is a case of a guy who wants to be a girl - identifies as a girl - but is biologically not a girl. He's a guy and shouldn't be allowed to compete as a girl. Doesn't matter how he dresses or what he "identifies" himself as.
