Rupp gives standoffish interview after 3k season opener

The interview was fine. The only awkward thing was that nikeman didn't seem to know that Mo is in Ethiopia and kept trying to figure out wether they were running workouts together, while Rupp (not the most charismatic guy) gave him short answers. But w/e.

It looks like an interview with an athlete who has zero clue about marketing. Nike has never offered any Rupp-wear for sale, and Rupp doesn't do any real publicity for them (running a race is not publicity). Rupp learn how to market himself better. His future is supposed to be set at Nike, and Nike is focused on marketing, and most Nike athletes at give a lot of marketing back, or at least try their best. Rupp needs major improvement here, but it appears Salazar won't let him.

I did know that Mo was in Ethiopa and that's why I asked if he had been doing most of his training by himself.

I was also going to ask if he thought that Mo skipping World Indoors improved his chances to medal, but that would have really pissed him off.

All in all, I think that he just got caught on a bad day and that he wasn't really interested in doing an interview at all. I've interviewed him before and it went quite differently. He's probably got a lot on his plate. We'll see how things go at the Olympic Trials Marathon in a couple of weeks. Hopefully that post race interview will be a little more upbeat.

Rupp recognized that Nikeman is a Fuperfan and not a journalist. Nikeman would say the same. So when you find yourself in the mixed zone and a fan is asking you questions your tendency is to move along to other questions.

Nike Man's questions were decent but you just can't have every fan at the meet sticking his iPhone in your face under the guise of journalism.

But how do u explain fact he wouldn't even make eye contact at you and grew visibly angry at your questioning compared to the other reporters?!

Good reply. rojo seems in deep denial. Didn't he just post an interview with derrick who says he stays off these message boards? Threads like these undercut any argument that there is not a bias against Rupp. There are a group of people here committed to review all Rupp post race activity in the worst light. It makes it hard to take anything else seriously. And I have seen so many pro athlete interviews that are worse. 1. The interviewers do not usually include fans and 2. We don't normally watch raw video of entire post event interviews - only short clips on TV.. It just was not that bad! Two more points: 1. for Rojo to call out other sites for fluff Interviews is totally hypocritical - I don't mind your interviews but most are just fan gushing, which is really Ok. 2.Enough with the "countless others". Can you please report on that? It's been how many months now? Did they say anything substantive or was it something like Kara's speculation about Galen?

This is basically right. You can find concern with lots of athletes of you tried. Lots of people could be cheats. There seems to be lost no concern about testing in Kenya, Ethiopia and Jamaica while they rule the sport. They get lots of endorsement, appearance and prize moneyKenya had the WMM champ busted for doping for crying out loud. I just come to the site aware of the bias and try to ignore it.

Notice the change in his demeanor at the 0:47 second mark when facing the guy holding the camera. He does it again at the 1:15 mark and the 1:48 mark. Short answers; unfriendly vibe. He was giving longer answers to everyone else and smiling as well. He definitely had a problem with that person.

Do you think Nick Symmonds would ever give a weak interview like that? Nope. Even if it was to someone he had a problem with, he would first call them out on camera, then proceed to answer any question they have, with more than curt answers.

Because NOP fanboys, #1 suspect is A Duck*, hammer away on the report post button. Make enough reports and a post is assumed to be a problem and it gets removed without review (the easy way for the mods).

*A Duck claimed to have report well over 10,000 "objectionable" posts. This was quit a few years ago. I suspect he is hovering around reporting 50,000 "objectionable" posts by now, probably more.
