I never understood why anyone would be ok with paying $100/ month to have someone coach you how to run, but that is definitely a huge thing now in Toronto

Who cares? How does it personally affect you? People pay for quality. It's been happening since the beginning of time. Do you have a job that you want people to pay for?
If running to be social is 100% your thing, go for it. Those social run groups don't have coaches, they're aimless and they don't know what they're doing. Other runners have goals and want a coach. This isn't breaking news.

If the coach is getting paid a $100 by her, and he's also getting his leg over, then I say good luck to him. Also, to keep that arrangement going I'd turn a blind eye to any race cheating she may be doing.
