Is Galen Rupp waiting to long to move to the marathon?

The track 10k is on life-support. It is going the way of the Dodo bird.

Marathon is where it's at. They are huge globally, and you get famous for winning them. Everyone knows the Africans dominate marathons. Imagine if Rupp dominated the Africans at NYC or CHI or BOS? USA is very patriotic and an entire nation would support Rupp. He would become a very famous and wealthy athlete (as long as he works on his charisma a bit). Make the switch, Rupp.

Not hating but I don't see him doing well in the marathon. He's so touchy with what effects his races at shorter distances, I think when he steps up he'll find that it does not suit him.

I was convinced that when Pat Porter finally moved up to the marathon he would be a medal contender. Never happened. Did Porter ever seriously train for one?

I occasionally jumped into workouts with porter back in ABQ towards the end of his career. I think he was still mostly going for 1ok team in 96. He was doing a lot of 1k repeats on dirt and pretty quick long runs. He would even talk about not wearing spikes in 10k if there were prelims.. so I dont know if he was durable enough for the marathon.

With Ryan Hall retirement, Luke Puskedra took a place of Ryan Hall. Likely, Galen Rupp took a place of Abdi Abdirahman.
