I paraphrased the "I seem to recall.." part, but the two quoted statements are direct John Kellogg quotations. Maybe you don't agree with him, or you don't think he's a great coach, which is fine. But both quotes are genuine—you can find them here:

What is really dangerous is the fact that the way people are idolizing Kenyan athletes in the marathon or Usain Bolt in sprints is the same way people used to idolize Lance Armstrong until 2 years ago. There are some performances which are not totally credible (e.g. running 2h05 in NYC marathon) and I prefer to doubt than be negatively surprised

If looking at the elites is wrong, then what is the right way to go about things?

Personally, I always figured look at what the best in the world do, then research why they're doing what they're doing and take certain elements from each program to build your own program.

Why are you so in the thrall of JK anyway? He is not even recognized nationally as a top coach?

This idea that dopers have ruined training theory, as well as being a lazy hypothesis and a cop out, is just troll bait for a thread.

Here is something that should floor you and make you and JK and all the other know it alls rethink their entire methodology:

Racing faster uses less energy.

Now get to work on some really useful coaching ideas.
