Robin Williams RIP

Great interview, very intimate and runs the gamut of his entire life/career. Sadly, last ten minutes he discusses suicide and some of his struggles, but still a recommended listen.

I can't think of any other celebrity death that I was so bummed out about. A lot of people feel that way. Sorry you are so bothered by it.

I totally agree with you. Like I never have watched a movie or read a book and gotten emotionally involved because they are fake and I don't personally know the fictional characters. Nobody ever cries at movies either. It sounds like you have a lot of growing up and living to do.

I didn't think R. Williams was that much of a self-critic.

Way too dramatic about this 'loss'... RW was the last thing you were worried about 2 days ago or even a decade ago. I never know him and his comedy sucked, makes zero diff to me... I sympathize with his family bc it's hard losing someone, but why should I feel any attachment to it personally?

Obviously YOU shouldn't. But if you really can't understand why people who spent their formative years laughing uncontrollably watching or listening to a certain individual, being moved by dramatic work of that individual, would then be saddened when hearing that individual succumbed to the depths of depression, then you are not very intelligent.

Does that make sense?

What does what I was worried about 2 days or 10 years ago have to do with anything? It's not like people only can get emotional over things they were "worrying about" 2 days ago. That is truly an asinine comment.

Again, why are you only affected by people you know personally? Stoically sitting through every movie and book -- even the most tear-jerking ones -- is a sad way to go through life. Does music also have no impact on you emotionally? Fortunately, most other people have the ability to feel empathy.

For those that didn't think he was funny: watch "The Birdcage". I think it's his funniest role. He didn't have to be manic to be funny. Personally, I found his dramatic roles, going all the way back to "The world according to Garp", to be his best work.

Those who don't care or understand why people care about him, can't you go away and start another "so and so is on steroids thread"?

Unlike you, I don't live in a fantasy world and I actually interact with live people. Every conversation with friends does not include quotes from movies and gossip.. this is such an American thing. Why should I care about RW? I suggest you don't either, maybe then you'd grow up and be more productive

One hit wonder? He was THE funniest guy for over a decade (late 70s and 80s) and many of his 80s and 90s movies are classics. And he had several good roles in the 2000s. His characters ran the gamut from Zany mork to serious, to slapstick, to psychopath.

Bad year for funny men. First Rik Mayall and now this.

Rumor among old NY teammates of mine (including eyewitnesses) has him running 60:xx for 10M in a Central Park race in the '80s. He was also a damn good cyclist and a big Tour de France fan pre-Lance Armstrong; then he became a buddy of LA after LA's Tour career got started.

I listened to the whole thing in the background.

He talks about suicide at the 52 minute mark.

It was weird the way he did it but it didn't seem like something he contemplated often.
