Not just me, most of my generation have. People these days are not allowed to fight at all or there's a big stink about it. Lawsuits, suspensions, charges, jail, the whole 9 yards. 20 or 30 years ago they'd just separate you and send you on your way if it was mutual and nobody was seriously injured or endangered. The law recognized that occasional fighting was natural and trusted us not to go too far.
And it's much different from sport combat, which involves less danger. Something everyone learned from schoolyard or street scuffles is how hard it is to hit someone who's jumping around high on adrenaline, especially if you've got adrenaline going yourself. Adrenaline constricts peripheral blood vessels and reduces motor control in the limbs. The basic football skills of running and tackling are much more valuable during fight-or-flight since they require little coordination other than charging and slamming into the opponent. A basketball player has at least some running skills - a boxer, jogging at best. The two advantages in running and tackling are of course speed and size. Lebron far outclasses Floyd in each.
Of course you will not believe this because it was I who said it, but the army and emergency responders figured it out long ago.
http://www.wildlandfire.com/docs/2004/stress_heart.htmEven with less adrenaline in their sport, boxers would still be nearly unhittable if they weren't actively trying to hit the other boxer themselves. If not for the scoring rules, they could just dance out of the way or play rope-a-dope for 12 rounds. Unfortunately the scorecard favors those who throw punches, which requires them to stand in front of their opponent with a gap in their guard at least part of the time. If you aren't boxing, it is easy to just lower your head, raise your guard, duck forward and grapple.
Some other things about unstaged fights:
) the vast majority are inconclusive, no winner, no loser.
) drunk people fight like shit. Bar fights are not a good example to follow.
) the worst danger is that they might escalate to the use of weapons or more people, which can get you wounded, killed or imprisoned for a very long time.
) usually the only punch that lands solidly is a sucker punch.
) Wrestlers are protected by special rules just like boxers; e.g. the guard position is no defense against a punch to the nuts, rather it invites it. Getting tackled usually means losing, especially on pavement.
This thread is not about fights to the death, and I didn't mention them either. If it were to the death, Lebron and FM would bring guns and knives, if they were smart.
