That is called racing. Every athlete runs out into lane 2 or 3 to block someone from passing. No big deal.

OK I realize Salazar became unhinged this weekend, but think about those guys from Shumaker's group. They don't like to talk to Rupp, they rarely congratulate him, they never talk to him, and why?

They are jealous. And it gets tiring for Galen and Salazar. Galen is the only US distance runner > 1500m that has medalled or is even very competitive against the best in the world. Some of these guys need to grow up. Rupp has done nothing wrong. He works hard, and the better he gets, the worse these guys treat him.

Why don't some of these guys come out and say why they treat him so badly. Could it be because he constantly beats them?

It is probably because everything other than working hard has been handed to him. How many runners get to live in an altitude house - do a morning run at 10,000 feet and then step out to do an afternoon speed session at sea level? How many runners have a underwater treadmill in their backyard? There are so many talented runners just trying to get by with a small stipend, or no monetary help at all and then there is Salazar's group who have everything and more. Rupp does work hard, but I think at some point HE will be the one who needs to grow up. Life after running will not be so easily handed to him.

Why are so many of you so upset because Galen and the rest of the NOP group have the best coach and the best facilities to enhance their training and racing? I guarantee that everyone of you hobby joggers would jump at the chance to have a opportunity like that! I'm sure Salazar's athletes are embarrassed by his complete over-reaction to some totally normal competitive "race craft".

The fact Bumbalough got DQ'd having not done anything proves Salazar and the officials totally lost the plot.

It's all really pathetic when everyone who's ever competed in track or watched a lot of racing knows full well that team tactics (e.g. El Guerrouj without much subtlety using a rabbit, the fierce rivalry between Kenya and Ethiopia), using your elbows to keep your line/space, bumping/little pushes when space gets tight, trying to keep people running wide or stuck on the inside, spurts of pace to keep a rival from passing e.t.c. are all normal and unavoidable parts of racing.

Generally athletes are DQ'd when they show total disregard to a fellow athlete e.g. Kemboi pushing Kipruto off the track last year. People are DQ'd when an obvious foul has occurred that's affected the result of a race, or someone falls over because someone carelessly took them out.

I've seen races with much more bumping e.t.c. going on than any of the races that Salazar had a problem with and no one would have been DQ'd. E.g. the Spanish mid distance guys used to be ruthlessly physical at the European indoors in the late 90's/2000's.

Rupp showed the right attitude and kept out of trouble and got second, nothing for Salazar to complain about, least of all shout at poor old Lopez Lomong.

I agree - they guy might get another heart attack if he's not careful. While what he did is inexcusable, I'm still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I hope everything is fine with his personal life.

I have no problem with Rupp, but he would be a much more appealing athlete if he got out from under the wing of Salazar and NOP. But that's not happening. AS has been the guy's only coach since he was a teenager. He owes his whole career to Salazar. I guess there's some chance that Farah, who is a bit more independent of the group, could rub off on him, but I'm not holding my breath.

Rupp will never leave Salazar. In a way, Rupp has been brainwashed to do things only in the Salazar way.

I agree in general that there's no love lost. However, I think a lot of the true animosity was between Rupp and the now pretty much departed older Wisco contingent - Solinsky, Teg, Bairu. Is there really that much friction between, say, Hill (who in the video you can see fist bumping Galen after the race) and Rupp? Or Jager and Rupp? Bumbi outleaned Rupp in one race and got DQed in this one for nothing, but it's not like he, too, was prank calling Rupp from Georgetown. Most of these guys have nothing to do with some of the stuff that's been cited. Derrick, GF, Hill, Jager were all in high school when it all started and at random colleges when it really flourished.
