Anyone else think this standard attempt by Hasay and Erdmann is a little pathetic?

And before you say that's not a track meet, neither is this, it's a time trial.

(i) International Invitation Meetings and competitions where appearance fees, prize money and/or the value of non-cash prizes exceed a total amount, or an individual amount for any one event, as determined by the (iaaf) Council.

making sure NOT to have "teams" of two or more nations

and have approval by the NACAC

unless NACAC gives approval to consider it part of the Area competition structure, which could replace condition (i)

I'd think of things like Millrose Games, Drake, Adidas Grand Prix, ... as our Area competition structure for elites.

Please list the professional runners who raced more than Galen Rupp this winter?

What exactly do they have that other American athletes don't? The company that makes Rupp's underwater treamill, the most high-tech thing they use, boasts a decent list of universities that have one installed. Saunas, Alter-G's, etc... can be found in gyms all over the country.

Unless you mean the things they have that the Africans don't, like clean water, air conditioning, a rubber track...

Apparently you missed the Austin, Des Moines and Fayetteville meets that were postponed due to storms. Happens all the time. I have personally been to several meets, both in Italy and the United States, that were postponed or delayed due to weather conditions.

I think this quote from Salazar pretty much sums up his philosophy on using technology:

Yes, there are a lot more opportunities to get a standard in the 1500, but that's why the window is so much longer in the 10k - and there are multiple ways to achieve the A.

Hasay and Erdman actually had 18 months in which to get a standard, just like every other runner who entered that event. Honestly, if I were in Hasting's situation I might be a little upset. It's true she (and Goucher) did not accomplish what they needed to at the trials. And it's true that Hasay and Erdman still have to run 25 laps in a certain time on their own. But I don't think there is much doubt that they have some advantages over other runners in having a situation set up for them where they can run on their home track in a perfectly paced race.

As a close friend to the Hasay family, I know Jordan has been watching and reading these posts and all message boards since she has been twelve years old. She finds it all amusing, thinks it is fun, and good for the sport! Keep it coming.

You'd rather take a spot on the team, seeing Erdman and Hasay fail but knowing they could have succeeded? Clearly you don't have the mind of an athlete who is actually competitive because Kara was rooting for them on Twitter.

Hastings and Goucher wouldn't have this opportunity? The many athletes from around the world stationed in central Belgium for the summer, minutes from many international track meets on the most high-quality track surfaces in the world, couldn't get themselves an opportunity like this?

Such a race is great for the sport. Just think how many people will be watching this race streaming live. Cheers to the Oregon Project. Jordan Hasay and Tara Erdmann....JUST DO IT!

If ANY female can have this advantage though, can you really call it unfair? I won't necessarily argue against it being contrived...but I don't hold it against AlSal and Co.

Either the rule out to be changed such that one cannot do this or changed so that if you are top 3 at trials you are automatically into worlds.

In regards to the Puskedra situation...it's not that unrealistic. Obviously, in high level diamond league races you will never have a superior runner pacing an inferior runner. But at slower speeds their is no reason to think you couldn't have. Ritz could easily pace Puskedra the entire way to the 10,000 A standard, as could Rupp or Farah. In fact, this was minorly done just last year with Rupp and Ritz in the 10,000 where they traded off 800m's at 27:30 pace so the A could be met. That's not the same as complete pacing, but I suspect that was partially to make sure Rupp wasn't doing all the work and was still good to go at the end of the race for his win.

The same could happen for females as well, it's just that AlSal group lacks anybody fast to enough on the female side to pace another female to the A.
