Maryland wouldn't be bad, while a bit monotonous the C and O canal gets you through the entire stretch without any hills and almost completely trails, it is also completely shaded.

CA would be great on the PCT. It would vary in terrain and you'd see a lot of other people and it would be very lengthy so you could maximize the experience.
