Not sure where the 10:28 is coming from. Eli ran 9:53 for the 2 mile on 5/18/2012 at the State True Team meet last year.
The McKusick Road 2 mile is not a certified distance, but has been the same for at least the past 20 years. It's used as a measure.

Well, it's impressive nonetheless, even if he should really be a sophomore. I worry about a kid like this burning out and/or peaking in high school if he's just churning out intense amounts of training. What have this coach's athletes done post high school? Anyone notable?

While this may be true, I don't see it as an established FACT on this thread. It is still impressive that four sub-4:00 milers have come from that school. Blankenship seems to be the one who really took it to another level. Reminds me of Mead High School with the 3200 back in the day.

LV's birthday is early January. If Krahn doesn't turn 16 for another two months (which is what I'm reading) then he would be 7-8 months "younger" than Verzbicas as a freshman.
And Krahn would only be about 3 months "older" than Eric Hulst, the longtime frosh 2 mile record holder (from 1973 until LV).
Eli is the boss, period. There are tons of collegiate runners that have pr's slower than his. Keep it up Eli!

He shouldn't be a sophomore. If he turned 18 as his freshman year of college was starting, he would be one of the youngest, if not the youngest, in his class.

Why would you tout this as a "2-mile"? This is a point-to-point road 2-mile (and in this case) with a tailwind. Why would you call him a 9:24 2-miler last August? He clearly probably could have run 9:24 on a track last August, but he did not.

Also, Luke Watson was a National standout in HS (in a weak era) and a standout in college and as a pro. He just retired a yr ago.
Stillwaters. christensen has his coaching program all over the net with completetrackandfield.com. He is speaking to the North Carolina distance coaches in July. He freely admits that his very low mileage program is almost to the letter as that of Sebastian Coe. i have heard him speak. He really defends the British Milers System. Says everybody else just uses a hodgepodge of different ideas base around mileage levels that are not based in science.

Maybe so, BUT (if the info here is correct) he turned 5 in August-ish but did not start K as most kids that are 5 do. He started K when he was 6 apparently. Yes he would be among the younger kids if he had started barely past his 5th Bday, but he is also among the OLDER since he did not do so.
There is nothing "wrong" here (the cutoff has to be somewhere) but he IS older than the large majority of his classmates and undoubetedly has several classmates over a year younger than he is.

All this age debate is interesting. Maybe things have changed, but I was 17 all the way through senior of HS, not turning 18 until just before college started, and that wasn't abnormal at the time. I'd rather be put a year ahead then a year back knowing how elastic the mind is at a young age.
You people are acting like being a couple months older means anything. It's more about the training accumulated that led to the times, not the extra two months he's spent in this world since he left his mother's womb. And people who graduate relatively young get on my nerves when they say, "Oh, I was only 16 when senior year started." Well, good for you. Your parents were eager to get you out of the house, apparently. Turning 18 during your senior year is typical. I only know three or four people who graduated at the age of 17. LV was to turn 19 DURING his senior year. This kid turns 19 two months AFTER he graduates.

Stillwater HS, MN has 4 grads that have broken 4:00 for the Mile. Stillwater improved its own leading mark when 2007 grad Ben Blankenship went under 4:00 on 3/6/2010 to join the Watson brothers (Luke & Jake) and Sean Graham.
Next best are 10 high schools that have produced two. There are 400 US sub-4 milers that went to high school in the US (403 total) so Stillwater has produced 1%.
On the combined list of sub 4:00 and sub 3:42.23 (1500m sub 4:00 equivalent for stat purposes) Stillwater joined South Eugene HS OR and Klein HS TX with 4. There are 24 other high schools with 2.
