RE: Politics of Boston Bombing Thread

Of course, we all (left, right, in the middle) want to feel safe and protected from the terrorism of 9/11, the Boston bombing, OK City, Newtown, etc. I don't see this as a political issue despite the never-ending pissing match on Letsrun this week. However, I do want to know why a group of people, even if they are extremists, hate our country so much. It doesn't make me condone terrorism or wish the Boston bombers were red neck Americans. I just don't buy the idea that Muslim terrorists hate us for our "way of life." We have a presence throughout most of the world, including the Middle East, and many resent us for "protecting our best interests." This is very different that "protecting our nation and way of life." Would you be ok with a Muslim country setting up a base in the U.S., as we did in Saudi Arabia after the Gulf War?

By the way, when and how has our "way of life" been threatened in our lifetime?

C'mon, Charlie, you're obviously more intelligent than this response. This has been an ugly cat fight since Tuesday (there was a brief coming together on Monday after the initial shock of the tragedy). One could easily argue that the "red neck" crowd is actually happy that the brothers are Muslim. It reeks of racism. The number of "I don't you so" posts is embarrassing and pathetic.

"From what I can see" there have been far more people cheering for the perpetrators to be Muslim. Heck, it almost sounds like some have been waiting for the next attack to go full throttle.

There are some hateful liberals in here as well, for sure. What I'm seeing in this thread (as well as earlier threads, some of which I believe have been deleted), however, is people accusing the LR liberals of being disappointed that the terrorists were Muslim, and at the lost opportunity to advance their alleged liberal agenda. Not only are these insults unsubstantiated, they are also being used to bash an entire political ideology. The liberal comments I've seen have been directed at these aforementioned attackers, not at conservatism generally, and have not included baseless accusations of traitorousness and the like. This is why I directed my post at the conservative haters here; because, at least from what I've seen, they are the ones on the offensive, posting false premises and using those ill-founded postulates as an excuse to trash liberals/democrats.

So when Obama makes his statement, in which he'll express passionate appreciation for the work of the FBI, BPD et al. and satisfaction with the outcome overall, will you haters accuse him of insincerity?
