Yes, that is Bev's side of the story. However, the student's side of the story is obviously different or she would not be bringing it up ten years later, especially now she is adult enough to realize that she was sexually coerced.

The quotation was the official statement from the university. So unless this person comes forth and make's a statement, that will be the story. The only people saying otherwise are anonymous conspiracy theorists here or other message boards.
It's more likely an attorney representing the victim will be making the statement in court. The victim stands to be well compensated for begin sexually exploited by a public employee in her trust.

She's a college coach, not high school. While the relationship is bad judgement and undermines her ability to effectively run a team, it was, as said, not illegal. We're a pious nation afraid to discuss sex and sexual relationships.
Agreed. One day we'll be more enlightened and realize that powerful people deserve tacitly coerced sex as a perk for their high status.

Yes. And in a patriarchal society, all heterosexual sex is rape.

There's a fine line between Enlightenment and patriarchy! Cui bono?
Sounds like the student in question returned to campus in 2012 to finish her degree, is not a lesbian, and realized she had been sexually exploited back in 2002 by the coach. Perhaps the coach tried to reestablish the sexual relationship in 2012 when the student was back on campus. Something happened that was not right. Therefore, the student made a complaint, and the perpetrator was rightly fired.

Cui bono? The one in power. As always. And, I think you need to stay with the one who brought you to the dance, here. Even if she does look alarmingly like Andrea Dworkin.
Are we in agreement?

Oh.. you're a provocateur, you are. Seriously, I have no idea whether we agree. If you think that all heterosexual sex is rape, then, no, we don't agree. I doubt you think that though. What do you think?
Personally, I think that questions about whether consent is or even can be freely given are extremely hard to answer. To be on the safe side, though, I like to stay away from the extremes.
I don't think all heterosexual sex is rape. I just think that the "oh, Americans are so puritanical about sex, they're both adults" is disingenuous given that Kearney was in a formal position of power over the student.
You mean homosexual right? "homo" Latin for same.
It wasn't Nicole Denby.
Also, Bev is an awful person. The only thing that kept her around this long is the fact that she is black, a lesbian, disabled, a woman. If she was just another white guy she would have been fired years ago.
Interestingly, another former star UT athlete who's also 30 like the involved athlete and Nichole Denby both are, and who was also a sophomore in 2002, returned to being coached again by Bev Kearney for much of 2012. Not saying it's her though, but if by chance it was, something that transpired after the recent return to being coached by Coach Kearney could have somehow resulted in a willingness to come forward about the past for some reason. To make it clear, I have no inside information regarding this stuff and absolutely no evidence that this is the athlete, other than that the age of the athlete is the same, and that she returned to be coached by Coach Kearney prior to the involved athlete coming forward.
But if a scenario like this did happen, it could help explain why this may have come out now, 9 or 10 years after the fact.
Well, I for one, knew Bev very well from her years in Florida and I believe that there are other dynamics going on here. I see money (her salary and an upcoming raise), jealousy, maybe revenge from an athlete, UT fear of lawsuits, etc. I know Bev to be unwaveringly loyal and ethical, even tempered, never held a grudge, and fair. I also know that she is outspoken (which in a man is a sign of character, in a woman she's called names), a true friend and mentor and respected by her athletes. So, I believe that Bev has been singled out (I remember male coaches behaving very badly on Track Trips). There are always two sides to a story. Why hasn't this athlete making the accusations stepped forward so that we can see her agenda? Why did she wait 10 years? There are many people who will vouch for her as a quality human being. I am one of them!

Bev's problem came about in new era of accountability and ethical standards.
Her raise would have to be approved , it was a recommendation to be presented to the board. The university lawyers know something we don't and there is much more to be found out if this goes to court.
This is not about her abrasive attitude or a salary increase , her wrong doing put the university in liable situation. Given the temperament today post Penn State all colleges going forward will respond the same as you will see over time.
If you are truly a friend call her and tell her to keep her mouth shut , her emotional outburst's will sink her credibility further. If she has a case let it play out in court.
She was fired for f*cking a student. Playing the race card, etc. won't change anything.
she has great wheels and a top-notch caboose. remember her from way back.

Several posts have stated that the involved athlete wasn't Nichole Denby.. Do you know for a fact that it was, or is there another reason you're posting pics of Nichole in the Bev Kearney thread?
Tough as Nails supported Bev and stated that she was "even tempered" and fair. trust me I experienced and was around many, many people that experienced the direct opposite. She was rude, completely arrogant, and I knew two of her assistant coaches who lived in fear of her. So there is always another side to the story. And I don't care whether a person is a male or female, and what they make. If they treat people like garbage then that is all I need to know.
