I used to be able to touch rim, but now maybe top of the net.

No hops. White boys still can't jump. My dad is 6ft 2 and he could only dunk a volleyball. I am 5ft 9 in with a short mom.

IMO you'll need more than another 6 inches (that's what she said!) if you're barely getting rim to dunk...but that's another argument. but let's say it is 6in - have you ever tried adding 6 INCHES to your vertical? that's alot! it's HARD, and if you're already a fairly fit & in-shape guy, it's even harder. so i stand by the "rim grazer -> 2 handed dunker" improvement is just as difficult as the "420 -> sub4 miler" improvement. both would be incredible. (of course I'm talking about for a fairly fit guy in his 20s, not some untrained 15 year old HS kid who could make those improvements over time)

Touching the rim is not light years away from a one hand dunk. It's only about 6 inches or so of a difference.

I'd choose the sub 15 min 5K. I trained my entire life and my PR was 16:38. I think people on this site filled with elite/semi elite runners lose sight that the amount of people that can break 15 are so few and far between. Many runners work as hard as they can and hit their ceiling at a way slower pace than the people on here.

Just look at local races, how many people even break 20 in a 5K, nevermind 15. Just my 2 cents.

I haven't been able to run for forty years--though I've adjusted somewhat and only miss it every day now--so opting for the 5k is an easy decision.

Given that I'm in the 60-64 age group, I imagine I'd be rawther competitive with that kind of time, though of course a good open runner would lap me.

Tell you what, I'll set for a sub-25min 5k. Where do I sign up?

In all situations, I would choose the sub 15-minute 5k.

1. If you ran this in HS it would mean scholarship offers from some of the bigger name schools. Maybe not the top dogs, but you could end up with a pretty decent chunk of your education paid for.

2. Both the driving and dunking skills do not guarantee you will be successful at the sport as a whole, thus, the sub-15 minute 5k also makes you the better competitor in your field of expertise.

3. I am a runner, so I am biased.

How does a sub 15 min 5k guarantee success at the sport as a whole?

The odd one out is the golf. Just drive 250yds, who cares? I am a puny distance runner that occasionally can hit close to 250. Drive 250yds straight....almost all the time....priceless and worth far more than the other two.

one handed dunk I could do in the past...I was a bit thrilled but not overjoyed. I ran a 14:48 5k and was thrilled although I lost the race. Never attempted to drive a golf ball 250 yards. I never really thought about it much.

BUT I am still in really good shape from all the training and subsequent training that it took to get to 14:48. I thought I would ultimately break 14.10 but sighhh.

I would prefer to run a sub 4 minute mile than any athletic achievement.

It seems a strange question to ask on a somewhat serious runners forum like Let's Run. It's begs the other question. Who reads this stuff?

There are a lot of really intense track and field, running fans on the boards however the questions that generate the most hits generally relate to nor running issues.

Sub 15 hell yeah. I'm a running fan. I can't imagine what the same question would generate on ESPN. It would be 59% dunk, 40% golf and less than 1% 5K. Most people have no ideal what a sub 15 actually means.

well of all those skills...250 yard golf shot is the easiest. most golfers can hit a drive 250 yards at least on occassion. running the sub 15 is super hard. and the two handed slam is also tough. but the 250 yard golf shot...very doable.

Sub 15 - as a woman, no question.

Since the choices didn't involve actually being good at any other aspect of basketball or golf, being able to dunk or to drive 250 yards would make me exceptional, but still unable to play basketball or golf at a high level.
