*** UCENY FALL VIDEO ***

So in order:

1) At about 3:06 into the race, just before the curve, Uceny is well clear of Aregawi. Her line is fine--outside of Tomashova.

2) Right before the curve, Aregawi aggressively pushes between two runners and tries to squeeze into a space that doesn't exist. She cuts off Dobriskey and tries to slip BETWEEN Uceny and Tomashova, who are running side-by-side. No way.

3) Aregawi clips Tomashova.

4) Tomashova breaks form and hits Kareiva.

5) Kareiva almost goes down, and Tomashova is forced back out, which forces Aregawi out. Tomashova and Uceny actually make arm contact here.

6) Aregawi clips Uceny's back-kick.

7) Uceny goes down.

The Ethiopian looked a fullback in a 1950's football clip. Buck that line! Just destroying anything in front of her.

The USA coaching staff should have filed a protest on this to help Rowbury in case anything happens down the line. Bad on them if they didn't.

If a runner accepts the slowish pace at which the race is being run then, I suggest, they place THEMSELVES in the bunch with attendant risks.

With the caveat. Depending on the seriousness of the fall, get mad (if it was me), get up and run the field down fast. Tragic to happen especially at an Olympic final but prepare for the worst? I'd like to know if competitors take the issue of 'falling' in a race seriously. It needs to be. Maybe the fall will make her an even stronger runner! Right.

My wife and I have watched it about 2 dozen times. The only reason I think she clipped the ethiopian is because otherwise she would have to be a complete klutz to hit the back of own calf like that. However, It does not appear that she actually makes contact with the ethiopian.

Seriously, why do people feel the need to make comments like this. If you're walking down the street and a stranger with a gun walks up to you and blows your brains out, it's your fault for taking the risk of walking down the street. Ok, so everyone is responsible for anything that happens to them. Empathy shouldn't exist.

The slow-motion video shows as plain as day that Aregawi's right leg hit Uceny's left foot, thus causing her to trip. You can even CLEARLY see the impact ripple on Aregawi's leg, it is so ridiculously obvious. I think that people are stupidly only watching her foot and not what caused it to veer sideways RIGHT BEFORE THAT, and then even more stupidly saying "oh I think she just magically tripped herself somehow".

Only a complete moron would actually say that after seeing the impact on Aregawi's leg.

Case closed.

It's clear to me at :9 - :11 that the Ethopian is speeding up trying to come between Uceny and the Russian. Her knee hits Uceny's foot forcing it back down on to her calf and causing the fall. You see the Ethopian continue to fall foward with the momentum of the contact but she recovers. It's unfortunate.

right before trouble began, kareiva and aregawi were both well into the back-kick space of uceny and a russian next to her. kareiva stumbled trying to avoid the hitting the russian, then aregawi sensed the trouble to her left with kareiva and moved a little to her right, just enough so her right knee and uceny's left foot were on the same plane. since aregawi was bunched up into uceny's back-kick space, just picking up her knee in a normal stride went right into uceny's left foot, knocking it to the right, into uceny's other leg.

just a tough situation in a very heated battle.

you have to have great situational awareness in unsafe environments--and that was an unsafe mess at the bell.

Then you and your wife are both idiots who don't understand physics.

Try having your wife shove your left foot behind your right leg while you are running and let's see how you do.

(This is an old playground antic that goes back forever, kick your friends one foot into the other leg and they trip themselves).
