So you're THAT guy. I've wanted to punch you in the face for years.

a very interesting observation. It seems as if Alberto was given the official job of split caller.
Isn't our sport wonderful that we can question the legality of a coach (off of the playing surface) calling out to the athlete!!! No other sport would that be considered remotely illegal.
This certainly is a stupid thread, and here's why:
Whether or not the rules were broken, nobody DQ'd Rupp and the event is final. So, unless he fails a drug test, none of this matters.
People get away with perceived rules violations and bad calls in all sports all the time. Only 9 years old whine about after its over. It's sports, not rocket science, perfect adherence to the rules isn't the standard.
This is done all of the time by "untouchable" coaches like Saladbar, Jos Hermens, etc. Saladbar did the same for Farah's 10,000 ER last year.
What I want to know is how Saladbar managed to get splits to Rupp EVERY 100 METERS as the Letsrun report says. Was he running back and for between the bends? Frankly, that would be pretty impressive for the old guy.

What??
His Diamond League record last year included a DNS, a DNF and not much else.
Is DNF a good result in American distance running?
Do we all forget:
Bowerman was on the infield of all of Prefontaine's American Records.
I used to think T&F and Cross Country athletes and fans were at least a bit more intelligent and sophisticated than those of many other sports. Then I started reading Letsrun.

What results sheet are you looking at? Here are his DL results:
Birmingham 5000m
2nd, 13:06.86 PB
Monaco 5000m
DNF
Brussels 10000m
3rd, 26:48.00 AR
That's a pretty good record, especially considering he was on pace for sub-13 in Monaco until he got knocked out of it.

Tennis.
You guys are talking about the fastest runners, not the best form. Hands down, it was Paul Ereng.

Well, you missed his Eugene DNS.
So, he is 50/50 for even finishing races where he shows up in the ready room.
In my books, it is hard to look at that and say he "never produces a bad result". If he was a Kenyan his age, with that record we would have been likely to get a flight and hotel covered for Brussels. We all know it.

It's not a DNS as he wasn't on the final startlist. You'll see he's not on the results page at all.
I didn't make the claim that he never produces a bad result. But he's usually performing at a pretty high level. Put it this way: if he starts a race, he's probably going to run well.
