Saugus wins CA state title

Interesting example as Yorks' torso beat Armstrong's yet Armstrong beat him to the mat. Bottom line is Saugus wins either way, Simi goes to NXN. Water under the bridge now.

It was no ones fault, The only people who can actually say something about the race is Barr and Jauregui. Barr Did not know that she was there and she did not do it on Purpose. Jauregui Had to get around the swinging arm and passed her at the very last second. It was a battle for 200 meters and they fought for it. Saugus actually told the people to undo the disqualification, Saugus respects Simi very much, said by Paragas when he was on stage.

Saugus would have won even if the Simi girl hadn't been disqualified. The officials disqualified her after reviewing the evidence, so obviously something did happen, and Saugus wasn't just "protesting to win."

The SV runner appeared to be running in at an angle, but really was not. There just happened to be a ladder standing there on the right side. Neither of the runners ran up the left side, so maybe the finish route was coming directly to the ladder, I don't know. However, running crooked to the finish is not a cause for DQ.

I was also wondering about the official picking her up. That is probably why the DQ occurred. It was a very strange setup for a finish line, especially at a state championships race.

finishline structure has permanent inground sleeves that structure is mounted in.

finish area is huge and unobstructed. plenty of room leading up to and beyond finishline.

Cross country is physical and arm contact is part of the game. DQ both of them and get over it. At the California State meet there is a mass of runners, often 10 kids passing in 2-3 seconds. How can you honestly DQ for an elbow in a race like that?

As a coach who has taken my team to the state meet the last 6 years I agree 100%. The meet should be the weekend before thanksgiving and then a true regional should be held that weekend. Why are teams selected right from the State meet anyways? And it is from a top 20 team merge voodoo scoring. The kids need to race each other, not some magical scoring computer program.

Amazing how the high school kids who go to nationals race almost a month longer than NCAA. Things need to change and CA needs to move up their meet a week.

It will never happen without a push from Nike.

Amazingly this year for the girls, five of the six best teams raced other in D2, and the four selected were the first four D2 finishers. Didn't even need the merge other than to confirm (and the merge only included 16 teams this year).

Can't remember if I've seen this written down but I suspect Thanksgiving weekend and Woodward Park were selected for the state meet back in 1987 to minimize travel (as possible) and to eliminate the missing of any school. Of course, other sports now require north and school travel for state games and tournaments and school days are often lost, so it seems as if an adjustment would be possible for cross country.

I don't think moving the state meet up a week and adding a regional race would have a positive effect on national performances, though.

If that's true, then the Saugus runner should not have been trying to pass on the right, where there was no room to pass. In any case, the Simi Valley runner should not have been DQ'd, except if the official helped her before she crossed the line. The Saugus runner cut in and caused her to fall.

Go back and read the beginning of this thread. It starts off with people making groundless accusations that Saugus got Barr DQ'd and questions the toughness of the athletes. The exact opposite is true however if you read their local papers.

How do you expect Saugus supporters to react?

When you win 6 straight years in California, people want to see you lose.

It's seems strange to me that you would join the bandwagon and insult the Saugus fans, yet ignore the blasting of the Saugus program and character of their athletes.

The problem isn't CA it's Nike. Why should the state accomodate Nike by moving all league, section and state meets back a week so teams can run NXN? The power merge and the at large selections are just a bad idea. If NXN really wanted to change things then they should have the CA region this Saturday and the championships the following week. Make CA kids have to choose between FL and NXN and race there way to the finals.....

I don't know much about either program, only what I've seen on this thread. I didn't say anything about the Saugus program or the runners. Only about some people with bad attitudes, and I see that you know who I meant.
