You should look at the results from the Wisconsin Invite. Wisconsin's top five beat Hubers and Poore by 25-30 seconds. However, in a race like Big Tens with a much smaller field, and a slower early pace it will be
easier for Indiana to run with Wisconsin. But I also think Big Tens will be Mead winning then followed by 5 Badgers. Indiana has not done anything this year to indicate they will challenge Wisconsin. They actually look worse this year than they did last year, unless that is their plan and they r
purposely sandbagging these early races.

Yes, they can get five in the top 7 or 8, I think, although I am not sure that they will try. My guess is that pack run very near the front and go as hard as they need to keep more than two of anyone from being ahead of them. They also like to win the race, so you might see them pushing Bayer and Mead. Remember Connor, at the time thought of as being the slowest of the top 5 guys, won the 5000 at Big Tens.
I remember the race at (I think) Minnesota when they went something like 1/2/3/4/6/7/8/9, and there were a couple of pretty good runners from other schools in that race.
As dumb as I believe it to be, I do actually think Indiana is trying to sneak up on Wisconsin. Poore and Hubers were chillin together throughout the Wisconsin race. Bayer running at pre-nats instead is undoubtedly a "ploy" to beat the Badgers by pretening to be totally outclassed.
I guess IU guys can't handle the pressure.

I think that Indiana is aiming at NCAAs, probably focused on it at the expense of Big Tens even, although they probably think that they have second secure and first would be difficult, so they will focus training and peaking for NCAAs. They are good enough now that they can do Regionals while not pushing everyone to run their hardest and in fact resting someone that might need it. That alone is a sign of where Hilmer has brought this program (i.e., when was the last time someone other than Wisconsin could treat the Regionals race this way, important, but don't shot all your bullets)?

Is larry wieczorek (iowa coach) really that bad? I talked to a couple of high school coaches from Iowa city, and they said almost everyone who runs under him, hates him. For example, one year they had the 4 best 800 runners in Iowa come into U of Iowa, they all transferred or quit by the end of the season.

Iowa in the last 9 years has sent 4 teams to the NCAA Championships, one regional team champions with one second place and three thirds with a best place at 13th at nationals. He also two individual Regional Champions. Thode dropped from 4:06 1600 to 3:58 Mile in 2 years. That is good progress. Not have heard of many people who ran for Wiz and didn't like him.
Also; Wiz doesn't coach the 800 meter runners. Coach Woody does.

I did notice the top 5 guys for Indiana that ran at Wisco were seniors, and no seniors ran pre-nats. Didn't see Hardacre though but I would assume he would have run at Wisco as he is also in that class. The guys at pre-nats were more like the team after the seniors graduate after this year.

Actually the bright spot for Iowa distances lately seems to be their 800 crew, whether or not their shitty walk ons make it or not. Also, take that same statement about the last 9 years and try to apply to the last five years. They HAD great teams, but definitely a thing of the past post Micah VanD

As Drinking coolaid and 26mi said, yes. They went 11/12/13/14/16 on the feild with 21 of the top 30 teams in the nation. This is just a prediction, but a pretty honest one at that. Hell they way sheilds has been running he could be in the mix of the top 15 or better yet- he wasnt far from indy's trio at wisco this year.

Only the wimpiest of wimpy distance runners would try to claim a "hamstring pull". He dropped out at the 4 mile mark of a cross country race. Did not "pull" his hamstring, more like regretted going out too hard. Edwards has had a couple good races in completely stress-free races. Other than that, sits way back and either moves a little or stays there when it comes time for conference.
Scored in 1500 in a pretty tough conference and qualified for Nationals last Spring!

He might be someone from the Wisconsin Track Club, which has some pretty good runners on it. In fact, one of the women's top 3 was pulled in from the club this year. He might be a grad student who competed elsewhere and is keeping up his running, as there are usually a number of them around. [here is confirmation]

I am a little vague but I think he turned to being solely a student, but this is only my general impression. I think he felt he was down the depth chart enough and had had his run in the big dance and would likely not get a second round. Again, this is all guessing, I know nothing in specific.
Ohio State is always a question mark. You never know with this team but Gary plays it smart. And they always seem to come through at the end of the year. They have as good as talent and depth as anyone outside of the top 2 teams.
"Always a question mark" because Gary thinks any 9:20 2-miler, if they're from the state of Ohio, can be top 20 in the Big 10. He has had a fair share, perhaps more than most, but those days are over. It is commendable he fields a whole track team near the top of the conference and certainly has some great professional runners, but the distance side of things is too thin on "talent and depth" compared to top half the conference. Needs to recruit Nationally to be a consistent National qualifying program.
