At what pr (sub 20, sub 18, sub 17 etc.) do you start to take a guy seriously?
Anything under 25 minutes and I wouldn’t really class a person as out of shape.
For men (female equivalents in brackets):
30:00/35:00+ obese
26:00 (30:00) = About average fitness levels. Not exactly a total slob but would definitely benefit from more running
23:30 (27:00) = Not fast but I respect what you are doing for your health. At least you’re not sitting around all day. Probably fitter than about 70% of the population.
21:45 (24:55) = Decent runner, takes some consistant training. Fitter than 90% of the population.
20:30 (23:15) = Good runner, fairly competitive in local road races, will usually place in the top 20%. Fitter than 95% of the population.
18:30 (21:45) = Great runner, very competitive locally and will usually place top 3. Smashing it compared to almost everyone. You are obviously putting some good effort into not only your training but your lifestyle. This is about the mark where you can start considering yourself an athlete. Decent boxers and soccer players run around this.
16:00 (18:30) = Outstanding runner. This is where talent really seperates people, not a lot of people can get this fast. Would not embarrass themselves at a regional level. Professional boxers and soccer players would run around these times.
14:30 (17:00) = Sub elite runner. Very fast and obviously very fit. The very fastest boxers and soccer players would probably run these times with a few months of training. You should feel very good about yourself if you can run anywhere close to these times.
13:30 (15:45) = Elite runner. There are no words, you are a god.
