what's with Liz Lawton? Saw she didn't compete at UAA's this weekend... must be hurt? Guess she won't be defending her 10K/5K titles... ?

She's not hurt.. she "retired" after indoor NCAAs.
Centennial conference is the only one I have heard of from PA because of Johns Hopkins, Haverford and Dickinson. I am from WI coincidentally. I thought it was interesting to see two qualifiers from a school I have never heard of is all. Must be doing something right or have two great runners.
Pa? Way after NY, sorry bud. Also probably after Ma. too.

"retired"?!?! WHAT?! What kind of respectable athlete does something like that? Is that seriously true?
Wow seriously 8:58 two mile in HS thats like a 14:22 5k. How fast did this kid run at Bowdoin and are the coaches there totally incompetent?

He ran 25:20 or so for an 8k, though he blew up at regionals a bit and Bowdoin didn't make nationals. Indoor he did poorly at first--3 1000's all slower than 2:39--though he did run a 4:15 later in the season. Plus, he was the first to hand off after the 1200 leg of the DMR at nationals (I think) which helped them to a fifth place finish.
But now the outdoor season isn't going so well--15:21 5k and 4:03 1500.

At ecac's indoors he split 2:59 for the 1200.

Yes, it's true... and what kind of athlete does that? Well, a nut job like her.
I don't think Kosgei will be returning.
I'm not from Bowdoin, but in his defense, he did lose a shoe like 100m into the race at regionals and still finished.
Also, he ran a very ballsy race at NESCACs this past weekend, running totally solo for the first 8-9 laps. He was looking really smooth running 70-71 like clockwork until the wheels started to fall off a bit around 4k. He blew up hard and only ran 15:11, but it was still a very gutsy race and pretty impressive, especially in a race that's usually pretty slow and tactical.
Nonetheless, I'd agree with the above that he's definitely underperformed since that 8:58. I hope that he gets in a fast 5k or something before nationals. He should be able to run 14:30-35 or so, which might travel.
SUNYAC champ's this weekend, look for some big performances throughout the meet.
Some highlights/thoughts:
-Cortland has 3 guys sub-49 in the open 4
-Guarino brothers again carrying Fredonia into contention for a title?
-No Justin Allen for outdoor, so will buff state be able to win outdoor too?
-Cortland has 3 LJers over 23', can their jumpers score enough points to offset their lack of distance?
-Will geneseo be able to score anything in any event besides distance (and high jump)?
So, with the "nut job" Lawton "retired," who's going to take the 5K/10K titles? I would definitely put my money on Pavlus. Seems like besides her it's pretty weak fields. And she hasn't even run a 5K yet! I think she could potentially win the triple crown, but I bet she'll only do steeple and 10K at Nationals.
Who's the favorite for the men's distance events? Spain (NCC) and Butzler (UWW- he's like 30! haha) have both put up some pretty ridiculous times...
Dee from denison in the 5k. You heard it here first! Ran 14:18 last weekend with a 62 second last lap and still looked un-phased.
Watch for Kim Chinn in the Steeplechase, last years runnerup and currently ranked 2nd according to TFRRS in that event.
Why all the hate for Lawton??
Seriously how does Butzler still have eligibility? He was running for Whitewater back in 2005. Im no mathematician but if you add up the years 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11 isn't that 6-7 years of competing. Even if he got a medical redshirt or something doesn't the 10 semester rule still apply? Does anyone know for certain the rules on this?
To be honest, even Pavlus hasn't looked that good--her 10k at Penn Relays isnt even a division leading time. However, the current division leader (Tave) also hasn't looked that good recently (lots of ~18 min 5ks and 2nd place finishes). Still, I'm surprised Pavlus didn't run faster. Perhaps she was just trying to hit the auto, but in that case, why go to Penn?
For the men's 5k, Mike Spain has got to be the favorite until proven otherwise but that guy from Denison who just ran 14:18 (Dee?) is scary--though he wasn't even the top D3 guy. Long story short, the 5k will be a free for all. It's gonna come down to how the tactics play out and who's fresh (or strong enough to double well). Spain will crush in the 10k.

There are exceptions for military service...he's spent a bunch of time in the Middle East
Horowicz did not lose his shoe early at Regionals; that was another top NESCAC frosh - Mike LeDuc from Connecticut College, who ran 9:19 in high school.
