8:10 Lagat
8:43 Lukas
8:10 Lagat
8:43 Lukas
LV couldn't swing it. He's a fine runner, and with time he'll be a great one, but right now, he's no Ritz, Pre or Lindgren.
After mile, ran 67/68. Looked heavy the last few laps.
Lapped by Lagat at the finish.
Good effort considering the hype/pressure and nobody to run w/ after 2k
Like Lukas often does in record attempts (Detweiller both years, 2 mile outdoors last year) he went out a little too hard and died. He was probably 4:16 at the mile. That's way too fast.

Um, Pre never ran 8:40 indoors, he ran 8:41 outdoors after a long hard season. Pre's outdoor mile PR isn't even as fast as a prep as Verzbicas was indoors.
Um, Ritz never ran sub 8:43 for a full two-mile, yeah 8:41 for 3200 meters but definitely not an 8:43 indoor two-miler and for sure not as fast of miler as Lukas.
The only runner you have a valid point on is Lindgren. Yeah, 8:40 indoors, and 4:01.5 outdoors.
Listen, if Lukas breaks 4 outdoors and sub 8:35 outdoors the conversations changes immediately. We for one studying the data think he has a very good shot at both.
Yeah, because Ritz was a distance guy, and in the 5K he was closer to Pre and Lindgren, HS-wise.
I think LV's issue is he's gotta pick a distance soon. Because right now he's more of a jack of all trades, master of none. If he focused either on middle distance or long distance, his times would be further along I think, especially distance.

ritz ran 13:44 and took third at world juniors in cross... that's more impressive than anything lv has done to date...
i dont think either ritz or pre ran faster than 843 indoors
well he had his own rabbit- who i'm sure was directed to go 419-420 and the rabbit ended up going through in 415. lukas' plan was just to hang with him.
Verzbicas finally gets a school 2-mile record, taking down Tom Graves' 8:51.9 for Sandburg HS to win the IL state outdoor meet in 1977.
Ironically if LV would have stayed at Lincoln-Way (where he ran 8:53.98 as a freshman) his 8:43.24 would have just missed the school record today. Dave Merrick ran 8:43.2h for Lincoln-Way in 1971 on the over-sized U of Illinois indoor track.
Tough school records! And not sure if Sandburg will officially count it since he's skipping the school season.

Are you kidding me? 3 seconds off a record makes him not a great runner? I know a guy that dropped 7 seconds to go under 4 in the mile the first time. 3 seconds means he is at practically the same level as the record, give or take a good day.
jack of all trades master of none" ?! lets see 3 high school national xc titles, 403 indoor mile 3rd all time, 843 2 mile 3rd all time indoor, 1418 indoor 5k , best all time indoor (and he ran that 2 years ago, most likely can run faster now).... and hes the master of none huh?

It would have been a school record if he had not moved.
Lucas would have gone to a new school as a sophomore anyway because the district opened a new school, Lincoln-Way West, the fourth high school in the district.
The original Lincoln-Way, where Merrick attended, is now Lincoln-Way Central, which is where Lucas went his freshman year. They later added Lincoln-Way East, then North. Lincoln-Way West opened in 2009 and Lucas would have gone there if his family had not moved.
