Married Folks: Doe's Your Spouse Nag You About Running

Thank you to most posters on this thread. You have helped me confirm that I should avoid marriage and children at all costs. If I get really lonely, I can hire a pro. I have plenty of friends to hang with on a revolving cycle and can do what I want, when I want. Thank you.

That sounds all well and good, and I'm not saying you should do otherwise, but keep one thing in mind. When you reach your 30s, most of your friends will have a wife and kids. At which point, they aren't available that much to hang with. Then you have to sit around for a few years and wait to hang out with the ones who will end up getting divorced. Of course, you could expedite that process by repeatedly convincing them to go out running for long periods of time.

You are doing your wife a favor by running. Keep it up, but try to convince her its best for you and your family--because it is.

Yes, this is true. I have tried to explain it like sleeping. Yes, I can go without it if I had to, but it is not really good for my mental or physical health. Even if I don't always enjoy it. I HAVE to run. That's why it's not just a hobby.

I'm lucky enough to have a wife who is proud of my running, most of her friends husbands are fat and drink but I still have a six pack. We met in high school and she knew i was on the cross country team then so that probably helps. It's pretty awesome when she brags about me to her friends and anyone thats a runner.

encourage your spouse to spend equal amount of time to themselves doing something they really love.

In inter-spousal conflict over daily activities lies the root of our social political problems?

Government waste? The Federal Government is the largest consumer of goods and services in the in the world. So in that sense we have an artificially inflated economy; if you cut 30% of GVT spending, that isn't just getting rid of reports that tell local governments how many garbage men to hire, but you put a whole lot of small businesses that rely on government work to get by out of work. We're talking the guys who clean the buildings and service the computers and copy machines. Not to mention THE ENTIRE CIVILIAN MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX! The federal budget has grown, yes, but so has our economy, and indexed for inflation and growth of GDP the size of the budget is relatively constant. You use waste like you have some clue of what you are talking about.

A bit of advice: Read more and talk less.

If you can't go for a half hour run, what is the point in life? You might a well be in bloody prison - its the same with my wife if she wants to go shopping every day (bring on the jokes) let her. Everyone needs a bit of freedom - ok if you have kids its harder, but where there's a will there's a way. We actually spend most time together a well but everyone needs a bit of me time

This is nothing to do with running it's what leads to a lot of arguments at home and work: one persons desire to control another. The ops wife is a control freak and he is a wimp, if everything is fine whats he moaning on here for? At least do it down the pub, like a real man!

she is just crazy. Have you ever seen the movie "Antichrist?"

I think significant others sometimes are bothered by our running because it reminds them everyday how you're in shape and active while they're not. I think it's a similar thing to if you're a guy and your wife makes way more money than you; you might resent her for it (not saying that's right to do, but you might). In this situation you might be in way better shape than your wife and she resents you for it. You'd think it'd make her happy, but I've found in relationships it can make the other jealous because they think you're going to get in good shape and eventually leave them for someone who's better looking/more fit.

Could not be your situation at all, but just saying I've experienced this.

My wife encourages me to go running cuz she doesn't want me around.

My wife decided to start running more seriously (she had been doing stuff but not losing much weight, and struggled a bit) and found a group of women at the gym she can run with, and this has helped her tremendously and now that we both run she is understanding and all we ever clash about is when we do our long runs (normally Sat is hers and Sun is mine). We have 3 kids, so it's sometimes a challenge, but it's cool to see her excited about improving, and it helps that she is in much better shape now -- she feels good and looks good, so it has helped the overall relationship......

Yes, same situation here.

My wife complains about me running one hour a day, while it is ok for her to sit around and watch youtube videos, while I take care of the kids for 6 hours a day.
