However, if you can convince me, and the people who read this thread, that darts is universally accepted as a sport, as is surfing, I'll concede that this guy is number one. However, this is not going to happen. Advantage Slater!

Also, Slater won his first world title in 1992, establishing his reign at the top for longer period of time than the darts player. Advantage Slater. Plus, darts is not universally recognized as a sport.

KS won his first world title in 1992. He won his tenth this year. Mayweather has won nine. Mayweather first fought on the world stage in the Olympics in 1996. KS had already won four world titles by this time. Mayweather has only had two fights since 2007. KS added two more world titles to his name during the same time. Mayweather is great, but Slater is better.
Actually if you count every fight where a World Title was on the line, i.e. the winner gets to have or keep the belt, he has won NINETEEN World Titles at the professional level. And while Golden Gloves isnt quite world stage, Mayweather won his first of three Golden Gloves title in 1993. As for the two fights since 2007, He was retired all of 2008, and has been in legal trouble most of 2010.
Also you cant really use that longevity thing as Mayweather is only 33. Its really hard to be winning world titles in 1992 when youre only 15 years old. Slater was 20 when he won his first, Mayweather was 21 when he won his first. And even if you only give Mayweather the 9 instead of 19, Mayweather won 9 titles in 9 years(1998-2008, the 2009 and 2010 fights only retained already won titles), where as Slater won 10 titles in 18 years(1992-2010).
If Mayweather title defenses counted as world titles, if he wasn't retired in 2008, if he didn't have legal problems in 2010, if was older. It is precisely these "ifs" that make Slater better. Slater won a world title, surfing against ALL of the world's best surfers, THIS YEAR. Plus, there are a handful of guys at my gym who could beat Mayweather in boxing. Imagine what Mayweather's world ranking would be if he had to take on all comers like Slater does in his sport.
Top 200 surfers of 2010. Please note the nations represented and the shear depth of this sport.

My mistake the top 1100!

What have you got that proves it isn't a sport? It's a competitive physical activity, played under a set of rules or guidelines. Therefore, it's a sport.
You have to understand that you saying darts isn't a sport is merely your own (wrong) opinion.
It's never going to be 'universally accepted' as a sport, because there are a bunch of morons who don't understand what a sport is that don't accept it.
Your little surfer dude gets owned by Phil 'The Power' Taylor. He can get in the queue with all the other Aussie failures.
Hopscotch and Surfing are skills sports but are not athletics.

So you keep saying. But the question is 'who is the most dominant sportsman on the planet' not 'who is the most dominant athlete'. I.e. the most dominant person who does a sport. You accept that surfing is a sport, so time to shut the old pie hole.
That said, The Power wins anyway.
