Ithaca, NY
Best town: Iten/Kenya.
Best city: NYC.
Both because it's the competition that makes training work.
Like travelling runner, I have been blessed with business travel that has kept me enthused with running...moreso than if I didn't travel so much. When I am in a strange city I run everyday (or is it explore???).
Detroit is bad (except Rochester Hills); but nowhere compares to Las Vegas as the SUCKIEST place to run...also the #1 U.S. tourist destination, ironically.
Overland Park, KS was quite pleasant, with an extensive asphalt trail system that was very nice.
Los Angeles has areas that have good running, but you have to be selective where you stay.
The best place I have visited (haven't been to Boise, ID) was Sunnyvale, CA. Stream trails that flow into the South Bay, then the expansive bay wetlands trail system. Also, close driving to Rancho San Antonio regional park, but I felt Stevens Creek reservoir was slightly better than RSA.
LetsRun search format is a wonderful travel resource.
Dana Point is the best place to train. You are humbled. You train in middle of thousands of current and former world class and professional sports athletes. The weather is great and the beach goes on forever.
