Do you mean a 1/2 a sit up?
When you can do 30 1:30 min. planks w/ the rest flipping over doing a bridge for the same time, then you're a man, core strength accomplished. So 30 planks and 30 bridges, twice a week after a hard workout, don't do it on an easy day you'll f'up your hard days.
Crunches are for appearances only and core work is overrated past a point, but since we like to do things the hard way...
I can do this. I started at 10 planks and moved up by 2 every two weeks from 1 minute to 1 minute 30. Rotate your torso while your in the plank position and you'll hit your obliques plenty.

Yes, I lift. While it might not be 100% training specific to running, I think the benefits far outweigh the fact I could be squeezing in another few junk miles that week. I also just love lifting in general. It's a different type of high than running but still one I throughly enjoy.
