Looks like someone just had an epiphany , and no one is going to tell the sex scandal since they can't find a way to blame sheridan and put them in the right

no one on the team ever claimed sheridan had anything to do with the 'sex scandal'.
Sounds like Sheridan to me. He stopped talking to his best friends when the new coaches came in because they wanted to be regular college kids. He refused to confront the coaches over the way they treated the guys involved in the ""sex scandal"". It isnt suprsiing that he is leaving; not a loyal bone in his body.
right here
Aye.
A message to all dee Gael lads.
I farsee a team meeting in dee near future after dee break concerning letsrun message boards.
- Clairvoyant Lad
Way to go airing your dirty laundry out on a message board boys.
Mick was just a dictator in making.he didnt care about the athletes but about his personal selfish gain. The former international athletes likes of Richard kip can confirm this.

I think all the guys at Wisconsin would disagree with you on this.

Has anyone explained why Sheridan was hated by the entire Iona team?

We at Nike would never do this.... heh heh heh
I had the chance to show Ryan around when he visited Iona as a senior in high school. I was a senior at Iona, and one of the American guys who was "serious about my training." Ryan showed a maturity that was greater than most of the guys already on the team. It is my opinion (as all of these post left are just opinion) that Ryan would have ostracized himself from those who chose to attend Iona to screw around. In terms of the coaching, Americans like myself went gave Iona a chance to be coach by Mick Byrne. We put all the slander of having the "foreigners carry us" aside and achieve many successes. Mick wanted to win (he's a coach), but he was fair and weighed all decisions and gave everyone a chance (I know this; I was the "8th" man at NCAAs twice, and both times, Mick couldn't apologize enough for choosing another athlete who probably was better for the meet). Ricardo did have big shoes to fill, but sources tell me he already chooses athletes' fates in the summer. Where you are coming in is where you be for the season, and if you don't like it, you can do what most of these athletes have started to do, consider other options.

I think it is quite humorous people are questioning a runners commitment because they drink alcohol on occaison. As a fellow collegiate runner at another D1 program, I have to say it is a farce to think that all runners in college do not drink a drop. In fact, drinking is almost as commonplace...we as athletes are merely more responsible than your typical college student. Now if these said abusers from Iona were drinking a day or two before a race that is a different story, but whoever is taking the route that drinking is bad and Ryan quit because alcohol was in the vicinity of the program is crazy.
Former Gael is most definitely Rick Young!
Shut up b*&^%! I love you!!!
Can I just add a few facts to the nonsense that has been said above?
There is plenty of blame to go around here for this situations that has developed.
Sheridan - He certainly does not come out of this with much credit. It is a fact that he has not been a good team-mate to anyone at Iona. Not just to the dimwits mentioned above who came to Iona not to run - but to anyone. As someone mentioned above Sheridan treated Lenny like a piece of shit throughout last year when he was struggling. And the funny thing is even if fit and well no chance he would have got 4th at Nationals this year.
They way he announced his transfer and refused to run his last season at Iona is ridiculous - and if people have one take away from this thread I hope this is it. Sheridan announced in the middle of October he was transferring and would not run any races for Iona this year. What seems to sting the most is that this appears to have been the plan all along - why else did he cram in extra classes to gruduate early. I think if he had been up front with the coaches etc that he wanted to finish his time at Iona and then travel somewhere else for grad school I think Ric etc would have struggled to stand in his way. But instead he does it in a sneaky way - discussing it with MB rather than anyone else.
You know - no one can argue he is a talented runner - a great person - not a shot.
Ricardo - Probably not handled the situation as well as he could have. You know I would normally criticise a coach who blocked an athlete from reaching his potential - but no way he should have granted sheridan's request in this instance.

I know for a fact that Sheridan was told by the Iona coaches to take courses for an early graduation so that he would be able to start, and finish, a MA program while on scholarship at Iona. Everything else you said about the kid could be (and probably is) true, but no way he was conniving about this back in March.

Yeah - he discussed with the coaches loading up on classes so that he could take a Masters or something at Iona. But in Sheridan's mind he always knew that he would graduate early and then leave to go somewhere else. I guess he was under no obligation to discuss his longer terms plans with his coaches, but he was certainly not open and honest about his plans.
You know part of me feels for the guy - he was recruited by Mick and wanted to run for Mick. It is a difficult situation that he then finds himself being coached by Mr Zero personality Ricardo Santos - but that in no way excuses Sheridan's attitude to his team-mates, coaches and Iona officials.
And to talk in a flotrack interview in October your plans for the season and how you think the team will do in November, only to turn to the coaches 3 days later and say that your not going to run for the rest of the season - is bollix - and should serve as a notice to any interested coaches as to what kind of guy he is.
For all those who are reading this thread, and have no idea what actually happened, except for what they are reading--don't believe the hype. Get your facts from somewhere besides the message boards, because there are numerous false accusations.
