Hmm... I think you should look at his athletes again... most of them are on the track: Anna and Jon Pierce, Uceny, Rhines, Hastings, Cragg, Scott Bauhs, Smyth, Sara Hall

Perhaps you should read what I wrote before you criticize it - I said the middle distance runners do track and every athlete you listed as being a track runner IS a middle distance runner (perhaps two or three of which have tried their luck with the half marathon or longer but are NOT long distance runners).

Actually just replying in general. A few weeks ago i commented after Halls withdrawal from Chicago it was probably time for him to move on. Now i don´t believe he read my post I do believe it is the right move to get fresh ideas, a new üerpective. I´d recommend a coach like Jack Daniels, Alberto Salazar (problem with Nike???) or Greg McMillan.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Bill Squires and Bob Larson have coached the most sub-2:10 US runners. Hall says he won't run for Mammoth Track Club so that means no Larson as he is a coach of MTC. Squires seems to be getting on in age. Maybe Vigil would be a good fit (though he says he's retired) or Irv Ray - live in Big Bear, workouts in Riverside? McMillan wouldn't be a good fit (he hasn't produced a sub-2:10 guy). Daniels' plans in his book are fairly close to what we've read of Mahon's training - lots of LT/marathon pace work - so that doesn't seem like it would change the training like folks are suggesting. One would think Hall would want altitude and a coach solely focused on him. Training groups don't seem to fit his personality. Kenya would be totally wrong for a guy who seems to need to be #1 in training all the time. Maybe he stays in Mammoth and gets his workouts from a coach from afar. Does his own thing. Feels good about himself and connects with the person we've seen glimpses of. Personally, I'd like to see him go back to the track and XC every now and then instead of just chasing the money. If he's making $500K in salary plus $200-300K in appearances, he can probably "lose" some money to improve his running. Marathons are raced from the gun now so it would be good to get into that mindset instead of the watch watching mindset.

I really can't see Hall moving out of Mammoth Lakes. I can see him not training with the track club under Mahon and whatnot, but he always talks about how much he loves the mountains, not to mention his best friends all live there and are involved with his foundation and whatnot. According to one story, he has no plans to actually relocate (yet, anyways).

gigliotti is also a great coach (baldini and bordin) and switzerland is a nice place to live, at least part of the year

somebody asked mahon's pr in the marathon. i think he's a 2:13 guy

There's only one coach in the country who has coached 2 of the top 6 U.S. marathoners and 2 of the top 4 half marathoners this year. But Ryan might not be able to handle a move to Minnesota.

Ryan Hall needs to take a page from the ol' WWF. What happens when a Good Guy has used up his time on top? ... He turns "Heel" i.e. goes bad.

Hall needs to lay low for a bit, then show up inked out, wild hair cut, pierced, unshaven.. and then he just needs to use every PED he can inject into this skinny veins, go win a major marathon, and if he gets caught... just laugh it off and at the press conference give it this" "Yeah I used that $hit... figured what the hell. Now, all y'all can kiss my skinny white @ss! out"
