Its not the mileage that I worry about. The high intensity along with frequent races coupled with the unhealthy attitude of her dad is what will get her.

oh, quit the Bsing man. this girl is tough as nails. she's like a miniature Gabriela Szabo.
look, I hope the girl has a great career, but the truth is, anybody who says she doesn't hammer workouts is lying.
lying.
I have seen her at Lawrenceville running like 12/15x400 with minimal rest and clocked her while we were stretching
The kid freaking hammers
I'd like to post that five years ago when I was a senior in highschool I was competing at a HS dual meet and as soon as we were finished this Brianna J. was like 8 years old at the time and did a hard interval session on the track, it looked much more strenuous that anything I was doing at practice in HS at the time. This kid has been doing hard track workouts longer than 99% of all the current HS kids, no wonder she\'s running faster.

Okay, let's say this girl is too young or she is going to slow down thru puberty....What are her alternatives? Quit running? Continue to kick butt and then burn out? Smoke dope and play nintendo? I guess you have to accomplish something pretty remarkable before you can get this long of thread on letsrun saying how bad this is.
Dr Poo, they're just jealous because a little girl can smoke them.
This ranks as one of the best american stories of all time. I'm 32 and more inspired by this kid then any american runner since Goucher's college days.

Personally, I'd rank a few other stories, like the life of Abe Lincoln, a little higher.
But that's me.

Optimist and Boo, I suggest you either bookmark my comment or copy it. Why? You'll be itching to throw it back in my face should an exception to the young-girl-phenom make it beyond college but...I accede the exception. I'd like to see Briana continue to get faster but fear she'll have had enough of adult meddling and expectations too soon and drift away from the sport.
The difference is that if they actually ran that much, they were not racing every other weekend like Briana does.
I will say that she will probably follow the path of many middle school running prodigies. Can anyone say "Garritsons."
dude man, you're like totally missing the point. Have you not seen this girl yet? her body is designed to be an elite runner. look at the picture of her at the Colgate womens game. she isnt going anywhere. scroll down:
maddmattheus...
there are many idiots that post on this site, but you are by far the worst poster that letsrun has ever seen. no one wants to read your shite. you are perverted and shouldn't be allowed around kids.
all of those young girls in the picture that you mentioned look exaclty the same. all pre-pubescent.
please stop obsessing... every time i go to read something, i find your ignorant posts in every thread. you make me sick.
Yes, the all look pre-pubescent.
I would predict that they all get faster in the 800 relative to the 1600 in the next few years, and in the 1600 relative to the 3200, as well as in the 3200 compared to the 5000.
Anaerobic speed increases compared to aerobic capacity because muscle mass increases at a rate faster than does the body's ability to deliver oxygen.
Right now, all the girls in that picture can probably run quite fast 5K's, but none can compete quite as well in the 1600. The eqivalent of Brianna's 5K is about a 4:50 mile, but she won't be able to run that for a couple of years, until after the muscle mass has come on.. but the extra weight that comes with it might make it hard for her to run a 16:43 5K then.

she was out in 5:08 on the way to 16:43 so who knows? she can probably run close to 4:50 now
She has run the mile many times and I don't think has broken 5:00.
She ran a 5:00.85 this weekend at NSIC for the mile

In the scope of things, I would put this performance as just as spectacular as Paula Radliffe's 2:15.
Paula must be really slow, despite running for Bedford scince she was 12, she does not hold any of the U13, U15 or U17 club records, and even at the U20 level is not the record holder for 5000m or 10000m. The only person she seems to have beaten as a junior was some Chinese woman in a cross country race, and the chinese woman has done nothing in the last seven years.
All these other girls are going to thrash Paula when they get older.
i predict that brianna will run 12:22 for 5000 meters when she matures. just look at her rate of progression from last year to this year alone.
or, she'll grow into a woman, get progressively slower, and become an unknown.
the truth lies somewhere in between, but if i were a betting man, i'd wager that she doesn't win her high school cross country state meet as a senior.
I was looking for BJ in the NON results and didn't find her so I checked the NJ state meet results. I guess either body changes are taking over or her dad just overdid it.

this pressure is what is wrong with american distance running.you will not run 16:43 by running 10 minute miles all the time.
