Bernard Lagat becomes the first person to win 1500m and 3000m at the previous World Championship, wins unprecedented 8th Wanamaker Mile, Bernard destroys field to win his 2nd 3000m World title, Tyson Gay destroys the 200m straight WR this year, Chaunte Howard breaks the American Record twice this year etc and NONE OF THEM ever got such exclusive coverage as Christophe Lemaitre. So what a white guy finally breaks 10.00- there are hundred of athletes who have achieved that same feat. Hey great job Christophe you would have barely beaten HSR Jeff Demps with his personal best- WTG! Bernard Lagat, Tyson Gay, and Chaunte Howard all do something no have ever done and they get SIGNIFICANTLY less coverage than a slow (by elite 100m athletes) white man. How many American will run under 10 seconds this year and none will get such coverage- go ahead and say Lemaitre was the first WHITE man to go sub 10 secs- WHO CARES ITS MEDICORE by world class standards. Bernard Lagat, Tyson Gay, and Chaunte Howard all achieved first this year by an American. Letsrun should be ashamed!

3) The Federation nothing can do for controlling the real age. This because the most part of the athletes, at the beginning of their career, don't have any document (also the normal ID). In the past, approaching the World Youth Championships, many athletes went to compete (5-7 years older) without producing any document, and, if qualified in top 2 or 3, only AFTER they went to ask for a birth certificate (of course, in this case, not real), and, after having this certificate, asking for their first Passport (they could have it ONLY with the permit of AK).

When AK understood that the most part of these athletes were overage, they put a rule that may be not correct, but is the only way for reducing the problem : ONLY STUDENTS COULD COMPETE, AND THEIR CLASS WAS THE PROOF OF THEIR AGE.

4) Really, what happens in Kenya is that, on the mountains, many children start to go to school not when are 6 years old, but when are 10. So, in any case, it's not possible to have a perfect control on the situation.

You're right; Dixon, De Castella, Smith were tearing up the roads. And they weren't facing exclusion from American races. The reason, of course, is that they did not have the genetic advantage that African runners have. Dixon, De Castella, Nick Rose, etc...all have European genes. They had no biological advantage over Americans.

How can you not know this?

First of all making people answer these funky questions so that they can post is kind of bizare especially since I am commenting on a sprint controversy and the question to be able to post refers to distance runners, anyway I am a multi year all american jumper and sprinter. I just happen to be mixed descent black and white so what and any sprinter will tell you running a sub 10 second 100 meter is an incredible accomplishment period. Secondly many people exhibit racist behaviors with out even recognizing them. Yes this is being blown out of perspective and I would bet that guys like Usain bolt and Tyson gay are happy for the French guy because they understand the dedication and training it takes to get to a point to run that fast. Yes some people are born fast but to get under 10 seconds it takes sprint mechanics training lots of plyos and A sprinters killer instinct for sport and many other factors to be great, yes prejudice exists black,white,yellow red, whatever when people say white men can't jump I say Jonathan Edwards when they say Black men cannot be leaders I say Barack Obama, why limit yourself I respect distance runners and if they put on sprint spikes I will blow them off the track so deal with it

This kid isn't going to run 9.75, and the next world championship 100m final is going to have eight guys of West African descent in it unless some fluky thing happens like Mennea (huge altitude+barely legal wind aid).
It's an unusual accomplishment, like many others that people make a fuss about. Some of them are breakthroughs by members of the various races or sub-groups of races. Lawrence Johnson, Jeremy Wariner, Jonathan Edwards--unusual, therefore interesting. If a black guy throws 290 feet in the javelin, same thing. And if a white guy breaks 10 in the 100--something that's been shown to be very hard to do--even bigger thing.

Mennea did that in Mexico City and ran on the lines. LeMaitre's best 200m was better, with +0.8 at sea level, no lines, and just .08s back.

Double the 100s and add the 200s, who wins? Mennea at 39.74, all at altitude, LeMaitre at 39.64 at sea level.

He's still just 27. Surprising that he made such a swift climb and then has not been able to touch those times from when he was 21. He hasn't broken 10 since 2011 and he hasn't broken 20 since 2012.
