After watching Serena's post-match interview, it is obvious that she is nothing more than a street thug. No remorse, no apology, flippant, arrogant, etc. This really sets a good example for our youth!

She should be banned from the tennis circuit for 1 year.

You've summed up exactly why so many people are angry and outraged at Serena, and call her a thug and criminal, while Johnny Mac was just slightly boorish and actually entertaining with his outbursts.

Only racists make that statement to divert attention from the real issue. The issue is we see one another as other. We amplify each other's faults to make ourselves feel more important or part of the master race. There are many examples of heinous acts by whites. But of course you're willing to overlook them because it'll be a reflection on you. You're willing to empathize with their "mistakes." As far as being real, Admit that you're a racist and maybe then you'll understand why the race-card will never die. That's reality! You've been playing it all your life. You're just mad that blacks see right through your and others alike in the media statements.

For what it is worth, she did not threaten to kill the line judge. She said "I feel like shoving this ball down your throat", not "I am going to shove this ball down your throat."

Yes, there is a significant crime problem in the black community, but I don't see how that relates to the incidents cited here to support a racist notion that black athletes commit more crimes than other athletes, or that black athletes have some sort of implied commitment to "represent" properly. I think racism is called out far too often or easily, but some of the comments here do fall within this category.

Athletes misbehaving isn't about race. Far too often it is about development. Good athletes (especially in sports like football and basketball) are often coddled, excused, held less accountable, encouraged in narcissistic behavior, encouraged in self centered behavior and otherwise excused from a host of risky acts constantly. They simply are not compelled to grow up as with many of us regular citizens. So of course many of them by and large are not compelled to draw the right kind of boundaries, and it gets them in trouble. This is not to say that Serena Williams is a bad person - she may have acted out here in an out of character moment - but let's face it - this woman has been a millionaire since her teens, and likely doesn't relate easily to the real world -and why it is so wrong to berate and threaten a middle age line judge. I am not excusing her behavior, but let's cut out the racial angle.

Truth. And a threat, and I feel that the line judge could perceive Ms. Williams' language to be threatening, is not protected speech under the First Amendment. Calling the president a liar, even to his face, is.

Adding expletives doesn't change the fact that she wasn't threatening to kill her. Saying that you feel like doing something and saying that you are going to do it are not the same thing. Size has nothing to do with it.

When you're a 5 ft woman line judge and one of the strongest women on the planet is yelling at you it does. You could tell she was very scared and threatened and she has every right to feel that way.

Serena deserved to loose the point, and the match. Other than the $$$ fine being too small, justice was served here. I don't think a trial is necessary. Serena got heated and acted foolishly. She got punished. End of story. Not really that big of deal.

I agree 100%. At no point did I say that the situation wasn't handled properly. I am not a fan of Serena, and this confrontation is ample proof of why. The judge had every right to feel threatened, and Serena did deserve to loose (sic) the point/match.

I am just saying that stating that "Serena Williams threatens to Kill Line judge" is inaccurate.

Obama should invite them both to the white house for a beer. That imbecile Joe Biden can butt in and make "me love you long time" asian jokes to the line judge.

how does this thread turn into posters trying to insinuate that all black people as a whole cause crimes and all that crap. she made a mistake cause she was heated and she got fined and either has or will end up apologizing for it and no one will remember this by next year. why does mcenroe (sp) get a pass for going crazy all those years...its not like serena gets upset like this all the time this is the first time ive ever seen her act like this and if i remember correctly this stems from a few days ago when venus and serena were playing a doubles semi match when a line judge called a foot foul on her and she was interviewed about it after the match being noticeably irritated. i feel bad for those who assume one person acting a certain way leads to them thinking that an entire race acts like way. thats a large amount of people to generalize unfairly...

You're new to letsrun, huh? And maybe new to this country? These type of racist statements occur 10x a day on letsrun, and 100000000x time day in this country.

Racism is still a HUGE problem in this country despite the progress (imagine what it was like to black in this country just a few decades ago). And notice a trend of all those bringing up racist comments correlates well with those making anti-Obama statements on here too. These are most certainly the same people yelling and screaming at townhall "meetings". It's no coincidence.

Ignorant white people still want to have blacks to kick around. They don't ever want to respect them as equals.
