Yeah, but....if someone points out that David Mck is NOT the third greatest U.S. 800-meter runner and names several who are greater...how is that insulting malmo?

Posters who come to this site may not know who a guy such as David Mack is and there's nothing wrong with that.
For the site owners....I can't say the same thing.
George Washington is said to have jumped across the Potomac River in his youth, and it was measured at 25 feet. Probably a record at that time. The story is supposedly true, unlike the Cherry Tree thing. So much for the Founders and Track History.
No. Not really well said. I'm not talking about *runners* in general, knowing about the history. I'm talking about people who are apparently looked up to by others as being some kind of gurus of the sport. Look at all of the synchophants running to defend 'attacks' that never happened. In the original post, I mention people 'more knowledgable than me' but then get called out for apparently thinking I know everything. So to you. Joie de vivre, another person hiding behind a name, I'll let you know that although I enjoy track and field immensely, don't purport that your lifestyle is any more beyond it than mine. Obsessed with memorizing? Nah, I just have a decent memory. If you're happy reading threads about women with big breasts (pics please) or women with small breasts (pics please)or women with hardly any breasts at all (pics please) you can thank the co-founders from here til eternity. I guess you're willing to argue until the end for your brand of mediocrity. Neither pompous and mediocre nor pompous and ignorant are a good match. Look in a mirror (pics please).
Well on the topic of David Mack knowledge how many of you remember his unsuccessful lawsuit against McDonalds for purportedly stealing his catchphrase: "Big Mac[k] Attack"?
In fairness to Wejo his thread was resurrected from over a year ago. I realize that the story of David Mack has been in the news off an on for several years.
Different people's minds work differently. Some folks have minds that remember minute details about random obscure things. Some people have a more big picture recall of things. I admit to remembering stupid things from long ago, but can sometimes have trouble remembering even the most recent of information without writing it down.
Wejos' original post:
David Mack (the cop who may have killed a Notorious B.I.G) Ran 1:43.35 for 800 1/10/2008 7:01AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
I was reading another thread saw a link to the Rampart scandal and then saw David Mack's name.
Perhaps my memory is failing me but I was thinking along the lines of "he was a phenom 800m runner in high school."
And then it talks about him running 1:43.35. I was shocked.

Anyone want to share any stories about how good he was. He was before my time obviously. How long did he run professionally before joining LAPD. What did people who know him at Oregon think about him.
I did not take offense to Weldon's lack of knowledge (about David Mack) nor deemed him less capable of running this site. As a school teacher, there is plenty I don't know about the subjects I teach. When asked a question I don't know, I will undoubtedly seek the information and get it back to the students.
The other Mack is Bobby Mack of Yale University in the early 60's. Won the Penn relays 2 mile in 62 if not mistaken

He's a detective down in Texas, you know he knows just exactly what the facts is.
Since it's seemingly been removed (Too easy to comprehend?), here's my reason for this thread in it's entirety.
I would expect, and I think many agree, that the co-founders of a web-site about running sports would be more knowledgeable about running sports.
That's it. Ninety some-odd posts in and it seems that about 60% - 70% of the posters couldn't figure that out.
Good get Hawk.

Pile on. I deserved that. Good catch. I think this thread may also cover psycho-phants and sicko-phants
Drew, it's not that people couldn't figure out your point. They just don't particularly think it's a valid point.
If you conducted a poll of people who post on here and asked them to name 20 U.S. 800-meter runners, they'd name John Woodruff, Tom Farrell, Mal Whitfield, Dave Wottle, Rick Wohlhuter, Jim Ryun, two Dave Patricks, Don Paige, and James Robinson before they'd name Mack. They probably have pretty good knowledge, it's just not Mack-inclusive.

Hey, at least you're trying to understand. But it started as my thread and I don't care at all about David Mack. It just so happened that the latest 'Gee Whiz guess what I just found out' post was about Mack. I could just as easily put up the same post with the exact same meaning two weeks ago. 'People who post on here' really have nothing to do with my take on this. Here it is again:
I believe that co-founders of a web-site about running sports should be more knowledgeable about running sports.
No mention of David Mack... or anyone else for that matter.

WTF? Incredibly doubtful. I'd think of Johnny Gray before I thought of all but two of those. I'd probably come up with David Mack before I came up with half of the ones you listed. And David Mack was before my 'time' just like everyone you listed. And David Mack probably came closer to the 'time' of the average poster here than any of the rest of those did.
Here is some trivia for you.
Who did David Mack have a double wedding with?
A) Danny Everett
B) Steve Lewis
C) Quincy Watts
D) Johnny Gray
E) Steve Jones
Answer:
Johnny Gray
So it was something of a two-man mile relay?

No, they walked down the isle together with their wives to be.
You idiot, you are so stupid. This is a running web site, of course everyone knows who had a double wedding with the third-fastest American 800 meter runner who never ran in the olympics or performed well in other major international championships.
I'm a relatively young guy who has accumulated whatever knowledge of the sport I have through websites such as these.
Off the top of my head, here are all the U.S. 800 meter runners I can name:
Johnny Gray
Dave Wottle
Jim Ryun
Michael Granville
Mark Everett
Nick Symmonds
Khadevis Robinson
Alan Webb
Sam Burley
Duane Solomon
Christian Smith
Wow, when I put it in writing like that, it is pretty pathetic. More than half are current guys. Let me try some other events, see if I do any better.
400
Michael Johnson
Butch Reynolds
Lee Evans
Quincy Watts
Jerome Young
Calvin Harrison
Alvin Harrison
Jeremy Wariner
LaShawn Merritt
Mark Everett
Tyree Washington
1500/mile
Steve Holman
Jim Ryun
Gabe Jennings
Michael Stember
Paul McMullen
Alan Webb
Steve Scott
Jim Spivey
Marty Liquori
Steve Magness
Don Sage
Seneca Lassiter
Bernard Lagat
Leo Manzano
Sydney Maree
Rick Wolhulter
Jason Pyrah
Chris Lukezic
Rob Myers
I'm probably pretty typical for the under 30 generation. The only time I encounter the names of the older guys is if they are record holders or medalists. Everyone else is current. Guilty as charged.
Are you a founder of this site??????
