so bikes have to follow the vehicle code, no exceptions...but bikes are allowed to ride on the sidewalk in mass. so, we've got a law that differs for bikes and for vehicles because bikes are different from cars.
Rules should be designed for safety, not with the "if the car has to follow them then so do bikes so there!" mentality. why shouldn't there be some differnt laws for bikes versus cars? The one i would like to see is bikes being able to use stop signs as yield signs when no cars are in the intersection. The other would be that bikes should have the right of way at stop signs.
the OP was stupid to run the light on the bike, not because it's the against the law but because he could have gotten himself killed or someone else hurt. but, if there are no cars around and the red light won't trigger because only a car will trigger it, then it should be legal to run the red if it is safe.
