Was he a dick to you, I mean personally? Cause with me, he was just the opposite, always a decent guy. Maybe others have had different experiences, but in my dealings with Alberto, he was very different than the way he was portrayed in the press.
I always thought Alberto was trying too hard for a "Pre Persona" I think that Pre was a rapidly maturing individual post 72, post college.
Al took some time getting there. His accomplishments certainly should inspire.
Hodgie, you are probably right. The Pre connection has ocurred to me as well. He, too, came off brash in the press and with people who didn't know him. Those who did often described him as a good guy to have as a friend.

Congratulations, but it's already been established that it wasn't.
Lost in this is the fact that Salazar drank very little in his race, therefore his reaction after finishing. That probably had more effect than the run in those sunny dry conditions. Hodgie is the best judge of this since he also ran and knew Salazar well. By the way, I was one of those people in that pack of bicyclists. Looking back I can't believe we were allowed to do that. I do remember that if we got too close the motocycle cops would try to run us off into the crowd. Nevertheless it was an absolutely awesome perspective, especially going up Heartbreak.
Old Dog is correct. Also heard that Beards was drinking all he could get his hands on, and thought it curious that Alberto was not doing the same.
I would guess the person who really knows the answer best would be Dick. Hence the gal that interviewed him would know best, since she JUST interviewed him.
I'm guessing Beards doesn't lie either. I still have the papers from back then, I'm sure it says it too

Whose opinion is undoubtedly biased, and likely fuzzy that far back, because he was running a marathon.
I once ran a marathon where the sun was shining and temp was in the 50s...by the end, I thought for sure it was 70+ degrees out! But, of course, it wasn't because IT WAS 54 DEGREES, not my skewed perception.
