His friend was tasered for what sounds like being unruly, uncooperative, and trying to interfere in police matters.
A) the officer was right to kick you out of the place
B) your friend is dumb for picking a fight with a cop
C) we don't have the other side of the story but it's clear he was tasered for saying "what's your problem" and walking at a police officer.
if you're in a bar and someone starts saying "what's your problem, he did nothing wrong, what's your problem buddy" and walking at you.....do you feel threatened? If so it's a threatening act and a cop can taser you.
Understand the laws before you break them, and if you don't like them change them. But don't break laws and then complain about the punishment, that's foolish.
Hopefully next time you get pulled over for doing 40 mph in a 35 mph zone the cop doesn't just pull you over but runs you off the road. Then he should grab you out of your car and throw you on the road. Then after he does that he should impound your car because you shouldn't be on the road doing these crazy illegal things.

The weird thing is that I have only heard the athletes at the party's side of the story. AND I STILL THINK THE POLICE ACTED APPROPRIATELY. These "after parties" are a recipe for disaster. So why is anyone surprised when something like this happens? If you go back to every national meet, there will be a thread on this board about some athlete acting foolishly. This goes back further than the Cabada knife incident 6 years ago at indoor nationals. There will also be someone starting a thread wanting to know who acted foolishly. So now we are all supposed to be shocked when someone acted foolishly and something bad happened to them for this behavior. GROW UP.
Maybe I missed this but who was the girl that dropped her kids off at the pool. Any pictures of said girl, or her kids? That's the problem with letsrun, never any "real" pictures that prove anything.
Any chance any that the people that got arrested or tasered were the same as the dude that got arrested at the D2 nationals after party in Missouri. These after parties seem to be getting better and better.
I think the point here is the use of what many see as excessive force by the cops. Sure people were probably being drunk idiots, but what people are pissed at is the perception that the cops went overboard in using force to quell the situation instead of other more civil means.
You can argue standard operating procedures and how cops need to be in control all you want, but we are talking about a bunch of scrawy distance runners here, not a mob with molotov cocktails. Why do other civilized nations seem to be able to control their citizens without such displays of force (yes I know most countries have examples of abuse of police power, but does Canada, France, Sweden, or England (for example) have police forces whose number one goal seems to be intimidation first, ask questions later)?
I wasn't there, I don't know the facts, but I do know that there are a lot of people in America that feel that the state is more interested in demonstrating its power and might, rather than solving problems in an efficient manner.
We have become a divided nation on this point. On one hand we have the law and order types - made up of people who are very black and white and think that the government is always right, and also of people who are so scared that the government will come get them next that these people espouse a philosophy of compliance so as to justify their own selling out in this regard. On the other hand is the group that is unreasonably suspicious of all government action and challenges it even when it is actually reasonable.
It would be nice if perhaps we could meet in the middle and see past the rhetoric and agree that one both sides of the issue more common sense is needed. The State is not always out to get us, and in the same regard, not all disruptive behavior need be dealt with by draconian means.

We have no trouble controlling our citizens. Some "youths" sometimes burn cars and shoot shotguns at cops but we are much more civilized.

What is it exactly that you think you're going to do? If you haven't contacted the local newspaper an gotten the story out in a very public 48 hours later it will disappear.
If this really was a case of police brutality then the newspapers would have been all over the story.

I still think the problem is that we are only hearing one side of the story. You are basing the "excessive force by cops" arguement based on what you have read in this thread which is from one side of the story.What if this was letspolice.com and the officer wrote "As I tried to remove the first person a large crowd surrounded me and 5 guys started to run towards me when I made the decision to take one guy down to try to stop the others."If that was all that you read would you then think that maybe the office made the right decision? I would probably see his side more based on that statement without knowing the other side of the story.Not saying the police were right but we don't know the whole story. We have heard witness reports but those are still going to be a little biased.

I just meant to get to heart of the issue which was not the tangential question of whether it is wrong to be in a girls' bathroom, or whether people were being idiots, but rather, how we feel about the balance of cops using force to protect themselves from possible harm, and the hope that such force is not excessive.
It will be interesting to see the blood alc. level. considering they were at the bar and drinking I don't see anything but bad things for these guys.
Remember these guys deal with these things every day. The guy was drinking and moved toward the cop after causing a fus. He is lucky he didn't get shot.
I agree that things got too rough but if you were a little guy with a gun and people were advancing toward you what would you do? Now it wasn't a part of this senario but I really don't understand why people think they can talk shit to a cop and get away with it.

I definitely wouldn't have shot him . . . or tasered him. From what we've heard about the story, nobody was threatening this cop.
