What were you trying to win anyway?

the idea that pre wasnt elite when at his best....go back and read it all, i won. although you did catch that typo on dimwit, nice going.
Yes, because no lawyers ever disagree on proper definition of a term, right? You lost when you tried to correct my grammar, friend.
Ok, if human beings become different creatures than we are today (ie morph into HULK), then they will NO LONGER BE HUMAN BEINGS will they? Apes are called apes, humans are called humans.
Job Tanui is a 3:51 miler....I would hope that he would be able to put 2-3 seconds on Torres in the last lap of a 1500. Why must you guys dog on Torres so much? Who is it that you are rooting for? We should have pride in all of our American athletes and hope that they start beating the rest of the world. That is why America sucks, we never think any American can compete with any African.
>>>>well, with no WC back then Pre did finish very highly at many "elite" European meets during his career, and I bet if you ask any of the top guys at that time if Pre was elite they would say yes (if they're honest)....not THE best in the world, but among the world's elite, yes. Question: When Pre ran 13:22 to break his AR, how many people had run faster than that for 5k? You are right though, Pre's success was an indicator of potential, but that doesn't mean that he was not elite at that time either. Geb's 26:54 (or thereabouts) was a WR at the time, but was really only an "indicator of his future potential." So was that not an "elite" performance then, because it wasn't the max of his potential? When Alan Webb ran 4:06 as a sophomore in HS, that was a great indicator of what he might do as a senior, but it also made him an elite HS runner at that very moment too (ie 4:06 being elite for HS and also indicating that he might run much faster his senior year.) Comprendes culiero?<<<<
I also got an argument on this one.
Okay - we may evolve a lot but still be humans. The average height is of human increases with each generation (about 1.5cm, I think). Who knows if and that process will ever stop? How fast could a 10ft tall human run? I don't know. Maybe the height will slow us down. Who knows?
Oh yeah, you didn't answer that question, either.
Actually, science and physiology suggests strongly that a 10 foot human wouldn't be very successfull as a distance runner. Look at the heights of all the top guys today, they are actually smaller than they were 50 years ago for the most part.
just wondering if living and training at altitude limits torres's ability to run a fast mile at this point? i mean all workouts at altitude either need to be shorter intervals or longer recovery times, right? i guess i'm just wondering if these guys ever run at sea level for a few weeks before racing. i think torres has continued to develop, getting better each year. there's really no reason to think he's leveled off. he's got to get faster at shorter distances. i'm sure he knows that and will continue to work at it. i think he'll nail his A qualifier first race and do well at worlds. if he runs 13:15 this year, that's not too bad of a year for him and sets him up well for next year.
Wait ... Goucher and Torres are AMERICANS ... therefore, according to Mark Thompson, they suck!
it was mentioned salazar's PR in the 400 was 59 (possibly). how many all-out quarters do you think he lined up for after high school, or ever? none? now how many miles do you think he raced? a few? it's quite possible for someone to have PR's that don't match up on the purdy pts or hungarian tables when they DONT RUN THE FUCKING RACE! (ps, ever hear of todd williams, too?)
along these lines, this entire thread is comedy par excellence. i especially love "utah jamz carl malone," who i believe was shown on another thread to be an 18 minute 5k guy on a stunning day, telling us "everything that is wrong with american distance running," and saying most american runners lack "SERIOUS BALLS," specifically goucher, for running 3:43 in a race "carl" didn't see.
Um...Malone think about what you just said. For it makes no sense at all. First the races have been set up to go "Faster" then Torres PR...but not neccesarily fast as he is capable of. Secondly if you set up a pace and it wasnt fast enough for him to run to his potential....Then he would have won? you got to be kidding me......you do know the other guys in the field have a say in that dont you? I quarantee those guys who beat him Didnt run as fast as they could have in a different race eitehr. To make it even simpler....if it went out at 5 minute pace and he got outkicked by the same guys....does that mean he would have won if the pace wasnt fast enough for him also? Which a 5minute pace clearly isnt.....but he still would have lost.
Thats because you pretty much have no ability to think for yourself. I didnt say pr's dont mean anyhing. HS and college....thats a difference. For the best most are ran at paces slower then they are capable of, and no one takes it out hard. Geb went after a WR, over in Europe guys dnnt jog around the track and kick it in like every single 1500 race in the NCAA. This is not new buddy. There are reasons why Robison and willis dropped like 4 second pr's in the 1500 outside of college, and why numerous others have done it before. Why webb dropped 8 seconds! off his pr in an elite race, and Sage, Magness ect, all changed their pr's that you would have taken as the bible if they didnt get in those races.
I am the 100th poster on this thread. Torres will pull Goucher along for the qualifier. 13:17 and 13:19. You watch. Peace
Goucher may have been disappointing in this race (still like to hear his comments), but he is one guy who always runs well when he can get to the starting line.
Other than back to 1996, I cannot think of any bad races he has run.
I like burritos, tacos are for wimps.
I'm better than you Janice.
Wait, we haven't talked about Mark Thompson in this thread yet.
You mean Mickey Thompson who held the land speed record for a while?
What about Hunter S. Thompson?
