Are these the results from the 81 XC State Federation Meet at Sunken Meadows? I believe my school took 10th at that meet.

"Did you show Miles and myself that tape right after the race? Because I remember someone that had set up the tape showing it to us. If so, could I get a copy of it? I have been putting all of my tapes of races on DVD and would love to add that one..."

Good memory. Yeah, I showed you and Miles the tape and you each gave me your business cards in case I could get a copy made. But, I only had one VCR and couldn't duplicate it. I still have only one VCR, but I think I could tranfer it to my high 8 camera and leave it on that tape. A further transfer would probably lose more of the signal. The video and audio quality has deteriorated in the 20 years since the race. Post your address and I'll pick up a tape and try the transfer. Putting everything on DVD is the way to go as it will outlast any of us.
I talked with Miles today and he remembers it as well. Let me know what I owe you for it. Thanks. It will be a nice addition to the many other races on the DVD.

who was the bernards HS kid that was your rival?
That would be John Carlotti.
Why doesn't Miles post in this conversation? Miles, are you out there?
I made a copy of the race. It will be on 8mm tape. The quality is not as good as original, but it is the only copy of the race. I'll post on this thread when I get to the post office, so you will know when to expect it. The charge will be for you to get a copy of it to Miles Irish.
Great! I'll do that. Miles is looking forward to it.
Miles said that he may start writing soon... I'll see if I can push him a little.
I can't believe the thread I started is headed toward 100 posts. I always thought 1981-83 were special years on the NYS running scene and it seems others agree.
But how about some of the girls? Desiree Scott was a great athlete who set some still-standing records. She was from Mount Vernon and always ran wearing her glasses. I think she went on to Rutgers. Anyone remember her?
I remember Desiree. She did run with her glasses - a very nice girl. I don't know how she ran after HS but she probably did pretty well.
Also, there were a couple of girls from JFK that did pretty well during that time... I just can't remember the names off hand.
Thanks for starting this thread. You spurred me on to pull out the old scrapbook and it's filled with good stuff fom the early 80's. I saw that Mr. Stahr ran a 1:52 in the Louck's Games I mentioned in an earlier post. I also noticed that Mr. Irish ran the steeple at the Eastern states and left me way behind once again. The same day, Mr. Stahr ran a 4:05 1600. What was Stahr's HS PR in the mile? Was it that 4:05?
Other stuff I've found to be interesting on these threads is anything related to the CHSAA (I went to St. Anthony's) like the references to Molloy. I got to know Artie Dohler a bit from racing against him all the time. It was cool to see the reference to Molloy winning the Feds in '81, although I must highlight that St. Anthony's won it in '80. Anyone know what is up with guys like Dohler, Scott Farrell (Msgr. Farrell), Kevin Farrell (Holy Trinity), or any of the other guys?
I think Mike's PRs were 3:46.99 for 1500 (as a junior in 1982), 4:05.7 for the 1600 and 4:07.0 for the mile
We called JFK-Somers "the country club." It was a private school, and they had their own nature preserve next to the school with miles and miles of trails in it.
While the rest of us in Section 1 had to deal daily with the possibility of becoming road pizza, they could do tempo runs in the safety of their own bucolic spread that rivaled the Rockefeller estate.
When other area teams ran against them in conference meets it was like Pop Warner football vs. the NFL.
speaking of old-time NY state runners, anybody remember Luis Ostolozaga from Bishop Loughlin?
I think he graduated in 1976 because I think he was a year ahead of me.
I remember running the mile against him at the Glenn Loucks meet and him and Maurice Weaver from Power Memorial were supposed to kill everybody, but Ostolozaga finished DFL and ran like 4:35 with like an 80 last lap.
some asshole reporter with a notebook ran up to him near the finish line after the race and blurted out, "WHAT HAPPENED?"
and words I'll never forget ... he responded, "I lost."
Luis was still racing on the roads in the late 1980s.
Scott Farrell's working on Wall Street, doing well. Doesn't run much if at all, I think.
Stahr, do you have any little Stahrs out yet there running Kiddie Ks? Will Junior be setting Ohio state records a decade from now?
Mike S., I put the tape in the mail today. So watch for it in your mail box in a couple of days.

I have an 11 year old girl that has great form. I think she could be good if she ever wants to start running. I don't push her so we'll see. I'll tell you one thing though, she is fiercely competitive like here daddy.

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to it... I'll make and send a copy to Miles as well.

... And (I didn't finish) I have a 3 year old as well. She is about as strong-minded as they come but I don't know if she has runner legs yet.
