Yeah, he can wreck his season like Webb did.

The 10,0000 meters should be banned from international sporting events due to its etreme danger.
I do think that if I were trying to be the best American 5000m runner I would want to emulate Bob Kennedy.
Having a faster 1500m PR than BK is a good start. Also, Kennedy never ran a 10000m race until he moved to that event in his later years.
So there are some reasons why he doesn't need to run a 10,000 soon. But if you don't think that the 5000 is a worthy event than I fully understand your point.
It's all up to Teg, though.

Kennedy probably moved up too late to be really effective at 10, and Teg's recent comments indicate he won't wait that long, he just won't do it this year. But this isn't an either/or proposition. One can run BOTH the 5 and 10 equally effectively (as countless runners have shown).
Not a matter of thinking the 5,000 isn't a "worthy" event (not even real sure what that means) but rather looking at all events which Teg can run effectively internationally.
i think teg's best chance of international success is either at the 5k or marathon. the 10k just isn't a race that he has a chance in. i mean, the best runners can kick sub 13 the last 5k of a 10k. however, as mottram has shown, a mid 12:50 guy can run very effectively in a championship type race if he has 1500 ability, which teg is starting to show he has.

So how many 5000s have finished in under 13:00; the list is very short.

You probably shouldn't single out a particular championship race and call it a trend. Yes, Geb and Bekele both kicked sub 13:00 in the '03 World Champs. How many other guys have done that? In how many other races has that happened? You know, you could take the '03 5K at worlds and argue that it takes the ability to run 12:53 with a 55 second last lap to medal in a championship 5k.

No respect for Bekele, Songkok and the fellas.
How many of them do you expect to be in the race? Do you know the World Cup format? They take several top nations (e.g., USA) and then the regions (e.g., Africa). Each of the eight countries/regions gets one entrant. There are not going to be more than one Eth/Ken/Uga/... in the race (unless Keyna is a solo entry and I do not think so; they would be laughable in most of the events). Of course, with the Arabian Peninsula being classified as Asia (I think) there are the Keynan expatriots, but they have to have been there long enough to avoid the Keynan veto (which is why Lagat is not racing it).
i read ian dobson made a similar assessment as the person above. he said his focus in the future will either be the 5k or marathon, because the 10k on the international level is just too fast. i think what this kid said made a valid point. the fact of the matter remains, even if the race does not finish with a sub 13, just the fact there are people in the race that can run that fast if needed on the back end of the 10k, that it makes being competitive very difficult for those even with high 26 ability.
I understand what people are saying, by skipping the 10k and going to the marathon, but Matt seems to be the guy who is pefectly willing (and able) to do the 5k and 10k and figure out which one will be his best event at the WC and OLY Games. If he can get his 1500 down in the 3:34 area; 5k in the 12:55 or under area, then he may stay there awhile, but if he gets "stuck" around 13:00 he may decide that the 10k is his best chance! It's exciting to see a young kid have a 20 second PR in one season and getting PR's from 1500 to the 5k. I hope that he has a great 3k in Monaco!!!! It seems to be a very good distance for him right now!!!
Bump because Teg doesn't run the 10,000.
