Just announced on Strava. Non running related injury and claims it came from soccer. Hope he can come back from it. Worrisome to see an injury like this so early in his career.

It didn’t come from soccer 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Crazy we have another crazy Dad coach. This won’t end well
I’m a firm believer that playing other sports can be incredibly beneficial for runners. After my own racing career ended, I struggled with residual pain that only went away once I started moving laterally - kicking a soccer ball and playing football with my neighbor's kid.
While there are many ways to incorporate functional movement, sports are an easy win during the off-season. To me, it seems unlikely that casual soccer caused a stress reaction; that's usually a volume issue. Could it exacerbate something already there? I'm not opposed to that idea.
I’m all for Sam playing other sports during his downtime. While there's a balance to be struck, sports are a natural way to build functional strength.
The real risk with "other sports" is usually an acute injury, like Van Niekerk, not a stress reaction. A runner getting a stress reaction isn't a shock or a career-ender, and we've seen plenty of athletes return quickly with smart cross-training.
Wishing Sam the best.
If you can find me a runner that hasn't been injured, that means you found a runner who isn't training.
