People are too optimistic. I wouldn’t be surprised with anything 2:00.00 to 2:03.00. Sub 2 in her first race, indoors, would be INSANE. I’ll say 2:01.28. If she does 3 or 4 total races indoors, I’ll predict a 1:59 by the last race, and 1:57 outdoors by the end of the year. Jmo! REALLY curious to see how she does and I am rooting for her!!!
I guess you think she will never win anything in the 800m then
I gave her 1:57 by the end of the year. She could then progress (hopefully) to 1:55 next year outdoors. Which means yes, I think she will win meets. But I don’t think she’s going to be a top 5 in the world 800m runner in her first year doing the 800m. We’ll see!

Obviously a lesser talent than Bol, but...
Patryk Dobek (Poland) 139th All-Time 400H (48.40) Hurdled until the end of the 2020 COVID-disrupted season Ran first ever 800 race in Jan 2021 (1:47.23i) Won Euro Indoors 800 in Mar 2021 (1:46.81i) Ran 1:45.88 in May 2021 Ran 1:43.73 in Jun 2021 6th at Monaco DL in Jul 2021 (1:44.28) Bronze at Tokyo Olympics (1:45.39)

She is going there to be the best and win the olympic gold, not to win meets

Dude, come off it. You’d just accused him of thinking she’ll never win anything at 800. Everyone knows she wants to win Olympic gold. A thread like this is where we pontificate as to how she’ll actually fare.

so one time PB doesn't count in your mind but one time head to head counts? lol kep showing how double standard Bol fans are.
Sydney lost to Paulino at her 400m pro DEBUT but soon run the WL. Bol lost to Narser at her ist 2025 400m run and where's her WL? tell me.
oh i should remind you that Gabby beat Paulino and Narser at her PB game. based on your logic, she won the game head to head against those two so she should be better than them which makes her simply the 2nd best 400m runner last year. Remember, I'm using YOUR logic to say so. admit it. don't be double standard.

I'm not the poster you replied to but I completely agree with your side. Femke Bol was never going to be anywhere near the level of the current top three at 400 flat.
And she understands it herself. Just look at Bol's reaction when she ran 49.48 at European Team Championships last year. She was shocked. Hands to mouth in disbelief.
Kaczmarek has a bit of a mental block against Bol. She tightens up and never runs anything resembling her best race. A couple of victories over Kaczmarek have caused Bol's biggest supporters to greatly overstate her upside at 400 flat.

Bol has said that reaction was due to the fact that she saw a 48, at first she thought she ran 48 something

Yeah, this is the example they always gets brought up. I just think it would be incredible if Femke ran 1:54 or 1:55 her first year. She is great though so you never know!!! Not sure why I’m getting downvotes either for predicting 1:57 her first year and then 1:55 by year 2, those are amazing times.

For starters I never said she wouldn’t win Olympic gold. My prediction of 1:57 in 2026, then 1:55 in 2027, could easily land her gold in 2028. That being said no I don’t think she’ll win. A medal would be incredible. And, I’m cheering for her 100%! She’s my favorite athlete. It’s definitely possible she could do It. However you’re totally being obtuse with changing what you’re accusing me of saying.
Lastly I realized I had the wrong day for her opener so I’ll admit I’m a dummy there. I’m just too excited to see what she can do!

Her coach has already said that if they see she can't win gold she will go back to the 400mh to try to win it there. So obviously a medal won't be incredible for them. Maybe you don't understand that this is not a challenge for fun, she is going to the 800m because she thinks it will be her best event
Okay, well we will see if Femke is smiling when she finishes high at diamond leagues and medals at (but doesn’t win) Worlds/Olympics. My guess is yes, indicating she’s happy with the result… I could be wrong so guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

I don't think you understand, you are talking about Femke Bol, someone who is used to basically dominate every race. She is going to the 800m to do even better, and again as her coach said if she sees she can't win gold she will go back to the 400mh, she won't be smiling lol. The only goal is to win the olympic gold. And people are downvoting you because they think she will dominate and break the world record

I'm Dutch and usually read all interviews concerning Bol. Are you making this up or do you have a source of her coach actually saying this ?
It was in a french podcast earlier this January on youtube. But why would I make that up? It's not obvious? She's obviously not going to the 800m to start losing

I've seen Dutch interviews after this where Meuwly (=her coach) states she's all-in on the 800m and Bol states that it's very unlikely she'll ever run a 400mH again. They also stated the goal is to medal in LA 2028, so top 3 and not just gold.
Maybe the backup of going back to the 400mH will come into place if it turns out she's not top 5 material at Worlds 2027, but other than that, I don't see it happening.

Obviously she won't go back to the 400mh, since she will dominate the 800m. That's why they say it's unlikely, because they are sure It will work out. Femke has said once that the goal is to medal, she obviously said it just to not sound arrogant. Her coach said that the goal is gold and if that doesn't work out she is talented enough to make a quick switch to the 400mh and win gold there. And Femke just a few days ago in an interview with the Metz meeting organizers said she wants to become at least as good in the 800m as she is in the 400mh, where she is the 2nd fastest ever and has won almost every race she has entered
